Q: I have recently redeemed some mutual funds that I have held for 20 to 30 years that will produce a significant capital gain for me in 2022. I have several stocks and an ETF that have been purchased in the past few years that are showing losses in the range of $5k to $15k. This includes TOI, U, SOXX, SQ, NVDA, MFI, MSFT, WSP and AMZN. Would you suggest selling these stocks to provide a capital loss that can be applied against my capital gain in 2022? It is my understanding that I will need to wait 30 days to repurchase shares to avoid the denial of the capital loss. If you would suggest selling these stocks and ETF, should I sell now or wait until the end of 2022? And if the stocks and ETF are sold to create a capital loss before the end of 2022, do you see some future in these investments and if so, which stocks would you suggest that I repurchase after 30 days? Q: Hi 5i,

I have maybe a rare question for you. I have done quite well with my stock selections (much thanks to you for many of the wise choices) and are sitting on a pool of Capitol Gains. Now, my wife and I are entering the phase of our life where we can make some significant "tax-friendly" charitable donations. Always keeping in mind, saving enough for the rest of our days. Our question is: If you had to sell from the list I provided, and thinking of holding the remainder at least another 10 years, which would you chose to sell a portion of ? Perhaps the top 3, in order of choice ? Thanks so much.

Q: Hi 5I, I currently own Topicus,Lspd and Shop. Down on all 3 and am considering taking a loss on 1. Any preference on which one? Am thinking of replacing one of the 3 with NVEI. Thoughts and if your wouldn’t mind ranking. Thanks

Q: You mentioned in an earlier answer that the time to buy is when things are bad which, in context, is now. Can you suggest some Canadian companies which deserve to be purchased about this time? Growth, value, doesn't matter. I have done well in the past by familiarizing myself with your daily answers. No one expects perfection but my 5i compass serves me well. Thanks

Q: What 4-5 Cdn Companies would go good with this group if looking to balance things out a bit (more growth focus vs income). A couple of stocks I had in mine include: BAM.A, DOO, MG, DOL. Do any of these stocks seem like they w/b a good fit/mix or our there others that you think would be better choices?

Q: Hello, I have holdings that replicate the Balanced Equity portfolio with weightings being within about 1% for each stock based on the model portfolio. I have also aimed to hold a small number of stocks from the growth portfolio and currently have 1-2% for each of LSDP and WELL. I am considering adding 1-2% holding to SHOP, LSDP, WELL or adding 2% for TOI or DOL. I have a 20 year time frame.

I am leaning towards SHOP, TOI, LSDP for adding shares but am aware of my heavier weighting in the technology sector and am considering if Dolorama may be a good option at this time. With the war in the Ukraine and inflation, also based on my time frame, can you recommend which stocks you would suggest adding to of the ones listed at this time?

Q: Hi Team,
I know there is no earnings estimates for TOI, but how does the earnings release look to you? The release says total revenue is up 24% compared to last years quarter. That part sound pretty good to me especially in the environment we are in. I am not sure how to guage the net income though. They state it is down compared to last years quarter due to "preferred securites income" in 2021. Is this a non event or will it be viewed as negative? Thanks for your analysis.

Q: Hi, With recent recovery in the Tech sector, many stocks have seen nice bounce in their depressed share prices. Tech Companies with solid fundamentals, strong cashflow and low/no debt have been favoured by investors. CSU has also seen good strength lately, which is really encouraging. Topicus share price also has seen a mild recovery from its recent lows, but still continues to languish around $74- 75 level. Could you assign the possible causes of lack of investor interest in TOI, which was a darling, not so long ago and follows the same business model as its parent Constellation Software ? Do you foresee some catalysts to break this trend which could help the stock to recover sooner to let's say $90-$100, and if so a possible/reasonable time frame. Thank you
