Q: Have been considering a purchase of Intact Financial for exposure to insurance sector. But already own BRK.B , which I tend to think of in terms of its portfolio of holdings , but has at its core their insurance business .
Different animals , I guess , but how would you think about this ?
All other considerations aside , would you add to BRK.B or initiate a position in IFC ?

Q: Hi 5i,

Thanks as always for your incredible insight on all things investments. My questions revolve around Dividends.

I am new to the world of Dividends and to date I only own one Dividend paying stock (ATD); and would like to add several others as a means to diversify my investment portfolio. Hopefully I am not too late to the game. I am 50 and looking for long term investment.

I have taken a look at your Income Growth portfolio but if I am being honest, I don't know where to start. Knowing you cannot personalize recommendations - hoping you can at least offer solid guidance.

Can you please share you favorite 5-10 (CA or US) and rank starting with the best. Would appreciate dividend stocks which offer diversification across sectors if possible. Any best practices you could offer in this area (TFSA vs RRSP vs LIRA etc.); I would be most grateful for as well. Thank you in advance!

thanks for your help with this

Q: Hi 5I. My largest holding is TD and I am going to reduce it by a third. Reasons are mainly concerns of future US growth because of the money-laundering stain. The potential fine is not as concerning as being shunned by investors resulting in stunted growth in the US. With the proceeds I was thinking of adding to my RY holding and taking a position in IFC. Or should I be looking at another big 6 such as NA or ...? Thanks in advance.

Q: a sunlife life insurance policy was purchased for grandchildren as an investment for them on the advice of a financial planner- I am embarrassed to say so far $9000 in annual premiums has been paid, with 11 more remaining before the policy is paid in full. If I cancel this policy it will be a loss. However; the dollars which would have gone to sunlife could be used for a better investment. Your suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you- (P.S.- I submitted this ? a moment ago-but my screen went black so I don't no if the ? was sent the first time)

Q: Hi, We own RY/CM/GS- 12% , IFC - 2.75% and PRL -1% among Financials. In addition, we bought EQB - 1% position at $85, based on strong analyst commentary, a month ago. We need some cash to raise and were wondering if it is necessary to own EQB or with about 15% weight through above holdings, we can let the EQB go.

Thank You

Q: Good Morning,

Knowing that you like both Intact and Sunlife, can you please give me your opinion on which insurance company might provide a better total return over the next 5 years? Sunlife is much cheaper and has a good dividend, but if interest rates drop (in Canada at least), how might this impact both businesses?

Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i,

I am slowly converting my TSFA to income. A model holding for me is BNS-T (Bank of Nova Scotia). A +6% dividend and good growth potential. Thank you 5i for the recommendation. Can you. recommend, "as of the prices today" 3-4 more companies that you would add. I do have access to your income portfolio of course, but I am seeking good entry positions for your current "fav's". Thank you.

Q: Hi,
I have been currently holding these for awhile and have done well on them, other than maybe WELL, which has been lagging a bit lately. Here are my allocations: WELL (1.7%), SLF (2%), GSY (3.5%) and NVDA (3.8%).

Recently in the last few months, I trimmed some NVDA and bought some VRT (1%) and SMCI (1%). For a growth investor, how would you rank these 3 stocks going forward? Would you continue to trim and buy these smaller cap higher growth names. With the run that they've had, I've been a little more cautious of a slowdown.

Also with these other names I'm holding, I'm contemplating trimming or completely switching to higher growth and better quality names with better runway for growth. What are your thoughts? Trim, add or switch? For example, does it make sense to trim a 3.0% position into two names that are only 1.5%? I'm against diworsification. Thank you!

1. WELL to VHI
2. SLF to IFC
3. GSY to PRL
