Q: 1. The Globe just published a list of Canadian companies CEO salaries and bonuses. Sorry for the odd question but I am find it very hard to understand how the CEO of Barrick deserves a salary of $3.2M and a bonus of $12.6M. I am hoping that you could help me understand a bit.
2. How does the CEO of CSU make money with a Salary and bonus of zero? Stock?

Q: Hello 5i, the S&P/TSX30 is based on growth over past three years . Looking forward what would be your top 8 for growth over the next three years?
I realize this is a bit of crystal ball work but I would like to hear your thoughts!!

Q: Portfolio Analytics indicates that I am overweight technology and underweight financials. My position in CSU needs to be trimmed, perhaps, and I would like to know if BAM would be an equivalently good company for me to add with the funds from trimming CSU. When I review the questions on BAM your answers indicate that BAM is one of the best in Canada, a "must own" company, yet it is not in any of the portfolios. I've made a fairly firm promise to myself to follow the portfolios, but I might break it in this case. I'd like your comparison of BAM and CSU: management, balance sheet, history, outlook, etc., etc. Otherwise maybe I should just live with a 10% position in Constellation Software.
As always, thanks for your valued opinion.

Q: Hello 5i,

I currently hold these stocks in an unregistered account. I have journaled over the five companies into a US account for the dividend. I would like to add possibly two more companies that pay their dividend in US funds. I have the rest of the balanced fund and some growth in my TFSA. Any suggestions to add here, and if it results in duplication, what would you remove from the list. I am well balanced and would likely have to sell at least one current stock and could just add the other if you can give me two. Was looking at Nutrien or AQN. Didn’t pull the trigger on AQN last year at 12.5.

Thanks for the assist.

Q: Good morning 5i

These two stocks are over the percentage limit in my portfolio. I am thinking about lightening up on one of these. Thought I would ask for your input. I notice in the most recent comments on google you say that you see no reason to sell and that you have a very positive view of it. Broker recommendations seem to have higher expectations for google and hold recommendations for csu at the moment. I am learning towards selling csu. There are no other considerations other which might be the best to hold and the best to sell, at this moment.
Thanks as always for the great service

Q: My earlier question on buybacks was which 5i portfolio companies are most active in buybacks and which take no part among all the portfolios?

The 5i response listed 5 of 8 that do buybacks, but I don't know to what degree or if the 5 are the only ones that do. If I'm not mistaken CSU has never done a buyback, are there others?

Q: With the world feeling a little uneasy about a pending recession, I want to keep only holdings that will weather a downturn. I'm not trying to time the market, and want to hold stocks, that while they may dip, have good balance sheets, good management, and will likely see a recovery. Others I will sell and hold the cash. Above are my current holdings. Do you see any that may be susceptible to excessive weakness in a recession and would therefore meet my sell criterion? Thanks,
Kim

Q: When I look at the latest Q&A from Feb. of 2019 on the CSU website Mark Leonard makes reference that it is difficult to find acquisition companies like CSU that have high ROIC but when Leonard did a screen for CSUs board he was able to find 6 companies out of 4000 with ROIC comparable to CSU. Any ideas how to screen for these companies or what companies Mr. Leonard might be talking about? Thx
