Q: Over the next few months, I plan to buy the 5 stocks listed. Not sure if there is a preferred order of purchase. This will be in a non-registered investment account, where dividend accumulation and safety of principal are the main goals. Buy and hold forever. I keep all of my growth stocks in my TFSA, and I have most of those recommended by 5i. Could you please recommend an ordered sequence for purchase of these 5? (If you see one.) Thank you for continued great service.

Q: Hi Guys,

I own all of the above (Bam.a 2.55%, Bepc 1.7% , Bep.un 2.2% ), I was thinking of selling either Bepc and Bep.un and purchasing more Bam.a.

Does this make any sense inside a balance portfolio.

thanks

Jim

Q: I really like their renewable, clean natural gas technology and I’m wondering if they are worth a 5 year investment?

Reading your past comments it looks like strong insider support but there remains a lot of risk.

I am okay with educated risk. Would you be an investor today or could you recommend a better option ?

Thanks for the great site

Q: Earlier this year we created an equal weighted 'balanced' portfolio of 30 Canadian companies in a non-registered account. Most were chosen from companies either covered by a 5i research report or included in a 5i model portfolio. The remainder were chosen, based on the 5i Q&A section, from what appear to be 5i sector favourites. All purchases in the portfolio are made with the intent to be long-term holds (10+ years).

Our intent is to increase our investments in the 30 companies over time. We have recently increased our positions in BIPC and MG. At this time we would like to increase our investments in 10 of the remaining 28 companies. The intent is to increase the remaining 18 in approximately 6 months. Which 10 would you add to today? Please rank them, include a small blurb explaining each choice and indicate an approximate buy price. Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i,
do you think AQN, BEP.UN, BEPC, BLX and NPI might experience some tax loss selling pressure for the remainder of 2021?
Can you rate them in order of purchase preference with #1 being the most favoured for an income portfolio.

thanks

Q: Retired, I am not what we call an eco-anxious, but I never thought I had experienced such a degradation of the climate in my lifetime. So I put my money where my mouth is. I have sold my all my energy stocks. I bought in place some BEPC and would like to know one or two other suggestions. Are there other green energy solutions? Canadian stocks only.
Thank you for your very helpful advise.

Q: On 7/30 in your response on a question regarding DND you said "DND, even in a privatization, might only have another 10% potential." Can you please elaborate on that?

I have BEPC and DND in my RRIF and I need to sell one of the two to raise the cash to meet the regular monthly payout requirement next month. If DND's upside is that limited BEPC would be the one to keep since it pays a better dividend and the prospect of renewable energy stocks should rebound much more. Your insight is much appreciated. Thanks.

Q: My TFSA is pretty much the way I want it. But now I'm organizing my non-registered account. First, Is there too much overlap between BAMR and SLF. (if so which one would you prefer). Second, Is there too much overlap between FTS and H (if so which one would you prefer. Could you put all of these in rank order, best fundamentals first. Finally, should I just take equal sized positions in all, even position sizes end up being quite small, like somewhere between 1.5% and 2%. If you think those size positions are too small I will eliminate the last 2 or 3 from your rank ordering. I mainly want the dividends in a set and forget style setup, and I will add to positions as funds come available. Thank you again for excellent insight and advice. I learn an enormous amount from the Q/As daily.

Q: Hi 5i team,

I want to start investing in Renewable energy and utility companies. What are the key financial metrics to value if the company's share price is expensive? Ex. I am considering to get BEPC but it seems very pricy comparing with AQN on Fwd P/E basis (193 vs. 20)

Thanks,

Q: Last Friday bepc was trading at 7.2% above bep.un. yet bipc was trading 19.8% above bip.un.
Why such a large price difference in bip.un and bipc and do you think they will narrow as they have done in bepc and bep.un?

Q: Hi
I also hold BEP/UN and AQN. Being that BEPC is at break even now, I am wondering if I should hold it, or switch it out for BLX if BLX has more potential for growth over time. Would you have a different suggestion than BLX? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated!
Thanks for all your hard work - Dawn

Q: At the time of writing this, BEPC is trading at $50.66 and BEP.UN at $47.49.......their corresponding 52 week highs are $80.30 and $63.39 which means that BEPC is 58.5% off its high and BEP.UN is 33.5% off its market high. First blush would suggest that BEPC may have a much greater upside from here but that of course relies entirely on what the market determines is a fair premium for BEPC. Currently that premium has dropped to 6.7% . Do you feel that this is too low, too high or just about right??

Q: My question is in regards to your information about US$ Dividends. I contacted Questrade where I have an account and they were pretty clear that if I have these stocks with the TSX, then they get paid in CA$. Here is what they said:

"I will like to let you know that we are not exchanging your dividend. We are only depositing the currency we received into your account. And I have double checked with our team and they confirm we can't change the currency of the dividend or choose them.
I am sorry you will need to contact investor relation of the company to help you with this. Please note we only deposit as what we receive from the company."

This is quite different from what the article on your home page says. Am I misunderstanding? Could you please explain. Thanks so much!

Q: I am drastically under invested in utilities. I presently hold the following - each is under a 1% weighting - AQN, ACO, BIPC, BEPC, BEP.UN, CU, and Fortis. Which would you sell? Which would you add to? All are in corporate non reg acct. Also want to increase my US and International exposure. Is there a reason not to do it in this sector?
Would appreciate US and International companies you favour. 5 year hold.
Thank you.

Q: Dear 5i,
If I hold BIPC.CA, BIPC.US, BEPC.CA, or BEPC.US in my non-registered Canadian account. do I have include them if I have to file Form T1135.
If yes what is the country code?

Q: Hi. I’m writing in response to Andrew’s earlier question regarding whether or not he needs to report BEP.UN on his T1135. I’d looked into this earlier this year for BEPC, BIPC, BIP.UN and BEP.UN. Brookfield’s web site addresses this specifically. Below is the link, and direct quote.

https://bep.brookfield.com/stock-and-distribution/tax-information

“Are units considered foreign property for the purposes of the Canada Revenue Agency T-1135 Form – Foreign Income Verification Statement?
No.”

Hope this assists.
