Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello Team,

Does any of the above garbage is worth keeping until the new year? Why? Bought them all at their highs, 3 years ago, and have lost 75-95% on each in a TFSA account. Was hoping that at least one of them would make me proud. What a mistake!

Would you put the proceed to FFH, or SHOP? Or would you suggest something else for a faster growth (yet somewhat safer, eg BLN). I am not hoping to make up for this disaster. It is just to invest for the long-term without losing what little is left of the original capital.

Have a good week everyone! :)

Q: Dear 5i team.

In a cleanup, what order would you sell these in?
Which of them are bankruptcy candidates in the foreseeable future if you had to venture an educated guess.

After watching XBC go bankrupt, these penny stocks seem destined for the same result.

Many thanks for your help.

Q: Hello Peter,
Can you please comment on Salona Globals's results yesterday and whether it is good buy at this point ? Also, any idea what drove Greenlane higher yesterday and thoughts about the company ? Can you recommend a good etf for India exposure in canadian dollars and is this a good time to initiate a position in India? Thanks very much.

Q: HI,
you had mentioned recently that we could be in another historic buying opportunity for growthy small caps. along those lines...
this list contains some of my small cap/more speculative holdings. could you comment on these as a current buy, sell, or hold. I am a long term investor ( 5-many years). and if any are screaming "I am going to zero" (like Xebec). and do you have high conviction on any other small cap growth stocks presently? cheers

Q: Hello Peter,
Greenland Renewables results did not seem to be that bad, but during the rally, the stock either stayed the same or declined. Can you comment please? During market call, the manager indicated BEP does not provide good value and feels taking dividends out of cash flow (instead of net income) does not make sense (unless i misunderstood). Also, i plan to hold AQN for dividend for long term and was wondering if that makes sense given your posted comments. Finally, is knight an example of company where one should not rely on past performance of a CEO? Thanks very much

Q: Hello
I bought all these stocks believing they were well positioned for the energy revolution. Investors have not been interested in supporting these companies and now we have one of the first to go bankrupt. More to follow as QST has been on the ropes now for five years or more.
Fact is, when the sea if full of escaping methane (pipeline sabotage), who is going to pay a company to collect methane from cow dung?

Any thoughts on.......
What is it going to take from these companies to go broke?
How much more time do they have in public markets?
Any worth the pain of holding through another market crash?

Thanks

Q: I do have a small space in my portfolio for speculation and over the years have both won and lost. What I have "sort of learned" through my losses is to avoid speculative investments based on "hope", "discovery", "hype", Fomo etc. When I look at the above investments my opinion is that they are more likely to be taken private/over and unlikely to go into recievership/bankruptcy. If I didn't already have these I would consider entering a speculative position. For me this is 1 or 2% per company with a combined speculative exposure of 6 to 7%. So my question is does my thinking make sense and given the present market will these companies GSI. GRN and QUIS given time live or die. Thanks John

Q: Hello Peter,
I am thinking of adding to Greenlane Renewables to average down and am considering initiating positions in Ginko Bioworks and Telus International. Please let me know what you think in terms of longer term potential. Much appreciated.
