Q: Are there any particularly compelling resource stocks that are worth buying currently. I have zero exposure to commodities and I am fine with that, but I am open to your recommendations, either CAD or US. I am a moderate-to-agressive investor.

Thank you.

Q: IMO Recently completed a $1.5 Billion Substantial Issuer Bid,(Fancy name for share repurchase)buying roughly 19 million shares at $78.50.Can you explain to me other than improving their EPS and not having to $38 million in dividends a year going forward how this is good stewardship of $1.5 Billion and can you tell me question number 2-What happens to these shares are they simply “retired”so in other they just vanish from circulation never to be seen again and $1.5 Billion also retired. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Q: I have not been in oil for years but am reviewing the matter for diversification. But here we are with 2 wars going on , OPEC+ cutting prices , Russia selling oil at discount , the world awash with oil and excess production, governments pushing green. Economists ( gotta love those guys ) were talking peak oil and $200.00 pbl. not that many years ago. So why should I want to buy a commodity with such lousy metrics ?

If I do take the plunge I’m looking at these 3 large caps. IMO has long been a well run company and I like to align myself with the American masters who keep on doing buybacks. CNQ is also shareholder friendly and well run. SU has a 100 years of reserves, an attractive retail operation but continual operational issues.

What is your view on oil long term and your favourite of these three ? Thanks. Derek

Q: Imperial is doing a modified Dutch auction. I know in general in past comments you seem to have suggested not tendering to these offerings, I think at least in part because if you still believe in the company then after the shares are bought back you own a bigger piece of a company you already like? What is the opposite side of this decision, why do people tender to these offers? Are you aware of anything in this particular offering that makes it attractive? (As an additional wrinkle, if I read the details correctly, if the shares are held by an IOL employee in their company savings plan, the disposition would be considered a dividend for tax purposes as opposed to a capital gain). Any thoughts appreciated.

Q: Hi 5i!

I'm looking to reblance my portfolio and would like to take advantages of actual opportunities. I dont have any utilities and energy stocks. Also, I would like to increase my investments into large caps. Which stocks would you recommand? Growth / bakanced oriented.

For utilities, i noticed the drop on bip.un and bep.un but i already own bn. Would you buy of them or just add to bn... or buy something else for better diversification.

Many thanks.

Q: Hi Peter,
Of the bigger O/G Cos we own CNQ and IMO but not CVE or SU. IMO has been on a solid run lately and we're wondering why vs the group laggard SU (easy to see using ratio charts). For new capital would you stick with CNQ/IMO or add in CVE or SU. Do you agree that with higher rates the Oils are a good place to be ? Finally CNQ has committed to greater returns when their debt target is reached; are there similar committments from the others ? Thank you and pls deduct credits as appropriate,

Q: Is it time to buy energy stocks? If so, what 2-3 holdings do you suggest? In the past I've successfully owned TVE, WCP and SGY. for growth. I currently own CNQ and have held it for years as an income stock. Thanks.

Q: Hi,

What are your top 3 to 5 picks in Canadian heavy oil?
Eric Nuttall picked CVE/ATH/CPG. in his recent appearance on BNN. He predicts it is bit too early for the Gas plays.

You can add separately the companies in the States as well. Eric's focus is only in Canada. I guess that is his mandate.

Thank you.
Mano.

You may want to add the stock symbols as the stem in this this question depending on your answer!

Q: Energy is a small portion of my overall portfolio. TVE is one of my larger holdings but it has lagged other energy names in the past few months. Do you still like TVE and should I be adding to bring my average cost down.

What are your three favourite Canadian Energy Names in current market?

Thanks
