Q: Good day. This is a follow up question to a couple of previous questions related to my daughter's TFSA account with a 5+ year hold period, moderate risk with growth and dividend prospects, Based on your responses she holds the companies mentioned in her portfolio. Based on her weightings she has enough cash left to invest in one more equity. She is considering adding either T, TIXT or LNF. In your opinion which if any would be the best choice and do you have an alternate selection and perhaps a comment on the portfolio? Thanks for your learned guidance.

Q: My wife and I are retired and rely on dividend income. In the event of a recession, including rising inflation and interest rates and a 20%+ decline in equity markets, how safe/sustainable does 5i view dividends from the named companies? With unrealized gains on all of these, are there any that 5i would suggest selling, accepting the taxable gain, and holding the cash for a rainy day? Thank you. Edward

Q: I have owned Enbridge for a couple years and have done okay with it. Going forward I'm not sure there is much upside beyond the 6% dividend. I'm considering replacing it with a similar stock with the potential for a higher total return. I'm looking at BEP, NPI or AQN.
Would you recommend sticking with Enbridge, switching to one of these stocks or do you have another stock you would prefer?

Q: My daughter is starting a TFSA account with $20,000 to invest and a 5-10 year horizon. She wants a balanced portfolio with moderate risk and room for growth and dividend income. Based on some of your recommendations she is thinking buying the above combines in equal weight. What would you add or subtract from this list? Should she try for more sector diversity?

Q: Can you suggest some Canadian companies, other than in technology, utilities or finance, that you currently consider to be undervalued and worthy of consideration for a long term investor. I've done very well with your suggestions of MG, WELL, ATA, TFII, EIF, PBH, GSY. I don't mind adding to any of the latter but would like to know if you see value ( or at least promising growth from today's prices) Thanks and best wishes always - Al

Q: Thank you for your prompt and your customary excellent answer to my earlier question!

Q: 1. May I then request you to give me a concentrated collection of small/midcaps energy stocks that you think will be comparable to an ETF? say ZJO?

Q 2: Big and mid to big caps that are comparable to XEG?

I will leave the number of stock selection to your discretion.

Many thanks.

Q: I’m thinking of expanding my energy holdings. I bought Whitecap a few months ago and have enjoyed a nice bump in value along with a solid dividend. I’m considering TVE, SU and/or ENB for a combo of dividend and SP appreciation. Could you please discuss the relative merits of each in a 1-2 year timeline. I’d definitely hold longer if the case can be made that green energy investment and ESG movements don’t derail fossil fuel companies from meeting existing market demand.

Q: The yield on CDZ is 3.0%, if I buy equal amounts of the top ten stocks, the average yield is 5.48%. What accounts for the 1.48% difference in yield and is the risk proportionally higher buying the individual stocks than buying the EFT

Q: Hi 5i,
Regarding Robert’s inquiry on journaling ENB or MG and the BMO Investorline answer, I journal stocks all the time when I want to increase my U.S. exposure. This is an option in lieu of Norbert’s gambit. With TD, the stocks are moved to the U.S. side. I sell them and have more U.S. currency for new purchases. There is no point in holding the stocks on the CDN side in U.S. dollars as when one sells them, you are hit with FX conversion charges, and end up with CDN cash not U.S. cash. Perhaps there was just some confusion by the Investorline service rep.
