Q: energy.
which 7 names in the energy sector would you recommenced should the sector begin to recover. ( oil $55 ish ) NG $3.50 ish
criteria :
leverage
reasonable balance sheet
good management
good future prospects .

Would you agree that; there might be a strong spring like bounce as many will buy, who are waiting for a recovery and have no or a very small position.
thanks
Yossi

Q: My only energy holdings are ALA, ENB and PPL, representing 11% of my equity portfolio. I am considering SU or CNQ as an addition. Which do you prefer at this time, or would you view my energy holdings okay as is?

Q: Greetings 5i,

I currently hold a half position in both ENB and SU, and, like many others I assume, am getting somewhat discouraged with the performance of the Canadian energy sector this year. I am more than willing to be patient, as I am only 35, and feel that both are good companies with strong fundamentals. More than anything however, I do not want to give in to panic selling.

Could you please provide your assessment of each as a long term hold (5 years plus)?

Please deduct a credit for each if you deem it appropriate.

Thank you.

Q: I hold approx 5% of my portfolio in O&G, and this is split 60/40 between Imperial Oil/Whitecap. Historically, I have found IMO relatively safe. However, with IMO now at a disappointing 5 year low, would you recommend selling it and replacing it with either more WCP or with another O&G such as SU or CNQ? Thank-you.

Q: I'm (still) planning an income portfolio and have decided on the above companies. I think they are solid and the income is attractive. I expect to hold them 5 years.

My concern about all of them is the electric car overhang. I see the trend to E-cars as a long term annual dissipation of the energy sector. Think of a successful 20 year short on the energy sector. There will not likely be a major event, just a gradual decline in earning etc. You have mentioned in another reply that PKI and ATB can use their locations for other purposes, but there's not a lot of uses for an oil refinery or pipelines.

Please provide your views on my conundrum. Thanks.

Q: I will have no other income in retirement and am looking to build a non-registered portfolio of dividend stocks for retirement as per an article you shared : http://business.financialpost.com/personal-finance/you-can-earn-50k-in-tax-free-dividends-but-theres-a-catch-you-cant-have-a-job. What would be a list of candidates good for a long-term hold where I just collect the dividend to live off? Thanks.

Q: As yet, I have not 're-balanced' my portfolio by selling some of Savaria. I still have a significant cash balance and don't really need to. Do you regard it as a sell to some degree, or should I stick with my doubling of this investment. I do have Suncor in my 'Balanced Equity Port.' Perhaps you had it at one time and I missed a sell on it? Should I keep this equity or sell it? One of the few equities I never purchased in my portfolio (it is difficult to buy in my US Schwab international acct). Seeing how it has retracted from highs, do you consider this a value purchase now?

Q: Hi Team , presently hold WCP as 3% holding. Would like to accompany that with a bigger player. Thinking of Suncor or Vermillion energy. Looking for growth and dividend as well. Which of the two would you recommend or is there another name you would recommend? Thank-you in advance. Sam

Q: I currently have half positions in these energy co.s & would like to move to full positions but am waiting on the uncertainty with the US to settle. It also appears that the OPEC production cuts are actually occurring to some extent but that they are only for a 6 month period. Given the US uncertainty & the OPEC situation I am wondering what the impacts might be on Cdn energy stocks & your thoughts on when to move to full positions, or whether the expiry of the OPEC agreement might be negative for Cdn energy? As always, thanks for your insights.

Q: I presently have VET, RRX, WCP, & SPE & VLO as energy stocks & am thinking of adding SU for its size & dividend as a long term hold. I would appreciate your thoughts & whether you feel the current price is an appropriate entry point? Thanks.

Q: I'm considering Suncor or CNRL for a long term hold. Could you please discuss the merits of each with an eye to exposure to impact from potential Trump decisions. Which would you buy today and is there another company in this space I should consider (I also have ENB,VET and RRX)?
Thanks for the great service!
