Q: The two Canadian railway companies have out-performed CSX this year. Any explanations? Which one is a buy now? CSX seems much cheaper.

Thanks,

Q: I understand that the prairie farmers are having a good year with above average crop yields. This should be positive for the railways if they have sufficient capacity; particularly CP. On the other hand, if we are heading into a recession, they could suffer. Given the recent pullback what is your outlook for the railways for the short to medium term.
Thanks for your insight.

Q: Good Morning,

As the market gets beaten down yields on some very good companies are becoming difficult to ignore.

With a recession in sight yields could possibly get even better.

I am retired and an income investor sitting on substantial cash.

What would be your preferred course of action at this time?

What companies would be most attractive to you?

Thanks

Q: With all the risks out there in the investing world these days it's hard for me to decide on an investing strategy that I can trust enough that I will hold equities even as they react and go down when each new risk becomes noteworthy. I've decided that the best strategy for me is to develop a list of:
1. high quality
2. inexpensive stocks
3. that pay dividends that are sustainable through difficult times.
Based on this strategy what Canadian companies would you invest in now that fit the criteria? I would appreciate 8 of your top picks.

I have some cash sitting around and would like to build a portfolio.
There are few names that I selected, the goal is to have a stability, potential growth, dividends and maybe some covered options selling opportunities. I will hold these in my TFSA.
What do you think of the names? What would you add? What would you recommend.

Thank you as always

Q: Good afternoon 5i staff, Which asset class or classes are friendly for investors during a recession? For stocks, which sectors are to invest during a recession?

Two railway stocks, CP and CNR, which one do you prefer or should consider to split money equally to buy both of them?

Hello Peter:
We have to choose to add to two among these higher dividend stocks in my Cash account. These will be held for the next 20 years and want the best "sleep-at-Night" investments that hopefully never need to be sold.
I am looking for strong growing dividends plus decent compound 10 year share price growth of at least 6%.
BNS, RY, BCE, T, FTS, PPL, SLF, CNR.
I know CNR dividend is only 1.8% but it may be outweighed by growth?
Any other suggestions are welcome.
Could you please arrange them best first for safety and dividend growth
Thank you............. Paul W. K.

Q: I have a relatively small RESP portfolio that will have to change to an RRIF. I would like the RRIF to be able to generate enough dividends to cover the required withdrawals. If that is possible. Can you tell me your top ten highest dividend-paying Canadian companies or maybe even better ETFs or a combination that you would be comfortable owning?

Thank you.
