"I'm wondering if you could suggest 20 Canadian stocks, with a minimum yield of 3.5%, that you would purchase NOW. This list could include ETFs."
I shall ask a similar question but for only 12 US stocks or ETFs in my TFSA ,the goal being safety+ dividends + some growth ,many thanks

Q: With the proposed buy price $250 and the current price 248-249, and no additional bids likely does it make sense to sell now?

If I hold will I get an equivalent $ value of IMO shares?

And is there any idea when it would close?

Would we receive all the dividends in the meantime?

If the deal falls through would you expect a 10-15% drop in share price?

Q: Hello,in regards to XOMs 60B all stock deal to purchase Pioneer with a market cap of roughly 440B its roughly 1/7 of their market cap,does this mean they issue that much new stock and if so for short to medium term shareholders it’s probably not ideal and basically could I have your thoughts on this acquisition Thanks and have a great day!

Q: As a TRP dividend investor of 77 years old are the problems with the XL pipeline already baked? As I am a value investor for the most part would you suggest a switch to PPL or other suggestion? I have a 5 - 8 year time frame. I also hold ENB, SU, XOM and CVX as well as NXF as the energy part of my portfolio.

Appreciate your ongoing honest and open approach. I know many of us find these challenging times. It feels like many "truths" of investing are no longer true. (i.e. how bonds respond to various market periods, whether preferred shares will ever behave as expected and how valuations of growing companies can swing so wildly.)
I need some help (I know, you can't personalize advice...) with SELL strategies. I am tempted to sell part of some holdings at all-time highs such as XOM. Is this ridiculous? If it's down 30% in January I will be kicking myself. I did NOT sell during very high valuations for a lot of growth stocks and I don't mind being patient while those recover but in hindsight selling half positions would have been a great way to solidify paper gains. I have held XOM for a long time as it was under water from my buy-in position, and it swings so widely on demand and oil price.
Is it crazy to be reducing positions in oil and gas now? Any SELL strategy thoughts appreciated.

Q: Hi, we have energy sector exposure through, CNQ,SU,TOU and ENB. There are several reasons for owning the sector through CDN companies, primarily for Dividend Tax credit in the Non Regd accounts and also their relatively lower risk profile and size. We have not invested in US Oil, and Gas/Pipeline companies, except a small holding in XLE.

CNBC guests/traders, frequently recommend the US companies listed in the question and it appears that all these stocks are doing well. ( OXY - with 20% ownership with Warren Buffet }. My question is that, in Canada, do we have Energy companies with similar product/business profiles to these US names. And, if so, for a Balanced 5i Portfolio risk profile investor, is the sector well represented with these four CDN companies ? Current Portfolio Weight: CNQ/SU/TOU: 9% ENB:6% Total-15%.

Q: On a question regarding WELL you indicated, the appetite for growth stocks driven by acquisition, with sub $700 million cap have just about 0% appetite right now. Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Two questions; please deduct credits accordingly.

Question 1 - I plan to sell one ETF (HXS) and two stocks (SJ & TCN) for a tax loss and then buy them back after 30 days. Please suggest proxies for each that I could buy as a replacement for the 30 days. These are held in a margin account.

Question 2 - I own WCP in my RRIF, and find that its volatility is harder for me to handle than I had thought. (Its beta is 3.26). Now that I'm in the black with it, I was thinking of two alternatives; selling WCP and adding to an existing profitable position in TOU (beta = 1.62), or starting a new position in XOM (beta = 1.07). XOM would increase my US exposure which needs to be increased, according to Portfolio Analytics. What's your take on this strategy?

Alternative ideas for each question would be welcome, and as always, thanks for your insight.

What are the realistic possible paths for oil pricing and related companies? i.e. +6mo, +1 year, +2-3 years?

The Russia factor is a huge variable and I cannot see global sympathy restoring demand for Russian oil but money talks ... when I see US pump prices something will have to move longer term or there will be a lot of frustration and pain.

I own smaller positions in a few O&G companies at historic highs so I am tempted to take a little profit after not taking some for lots of growth stocks when they had tailwinds.
