Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I have held efn and ecn forever. I should have sold at their highs along with lspd. At this point all three have been beaten very badly. Are the dividends safe (ecn and efn)? What about the core business of fleet? This was supposed to be sticky similar to a utility stock but the stock has certainly not held up. Will the customers go bankrupt and revenues dip? Does ecn have risk of lending default? And how sticky is lightspeed’s business? If their clients (smb retail) go under they have about 100m in the bank. Would that last long enough for a turn around? How do you view the limited insider and institutional ownership? Is this a concern?

Sorry for the many questions feel free to remove additional question credits.

Q: In general, when the markets come roaring back, do investors tend to load up on those companies that weathered the storm (kxs, real thus far) or promising companies like lspd or stc who are taking a massive hit?
Thank you,
Kevin

Q: Would you buy any of these companies at this time? Would appreciate reasons for your answer. This will be in my cash account, 2-3 year hold, medium to high risk. Thanks.

Q: Hi, 5i Team
In the market updates email that you sent on Mar/01, you mentioned the following companies deserved a closer look:

Air Canada (AC), Lightspeed (LSPD), BRP Inc. (DOO),Maple Leaf Foods (MFI),Dollarama (DOL),Aritzia (ATZ),Gildan Activewear (GIL),
Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATD.b), Canada goose (GOOS), Descartes Systems. Group (DSG), WSP Global (WSP),

In the "5i special Opportunities Report" within the Special Market Volatility Report email sent on Mar/09, you recommended 10 stocks that were very attractive. Only WSP and DSG were also included. What do you think of the others? Is it a good time to buy them around March?
Are they also solid names worth owning especially now after some huge corrections?

Thank a lot!

Q: My understanding is that at least some of Lightspeed's business relates to the restaurant industry. If this is indeed true could you please comment on whether the Corona Virus outbreak might affect their revenue. It seems to me that people will be less inclined to go to restaurants until what has now been called a pandemic is under control. Also do you think that Lightspeed has the fundamentals to withstand a market downturn for the next several months or perhaps longer. Your insight into this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter and Ryan,
I am looking to take advantage from the current market dip and add the the above securities and ETF to my RRSP Portfolio. My time frame is 5 to 10 years. with adding the above I will be having all the 5i balanced portfolio stocks included. In addition I am adding some ETF and other stock that I think it can help my portfolio. Appreciate you advise of which stock look good at this time to buy (please rank). Is there any of the list I should avoid. Do you have other suggestions for good quality stocks and ETF (in the US and Canada) that have a good growth potential.
Thanks,
YR

Q: Hi,

I own these 3 stocks as I am a high growth investor .

The market is up over 5% today while my stocks are either down or up less than 1%. Even some cruise line stocks are up more than the 3 stocks I own.
May I get your opinion on them?

Thank you

Q: Do these companies do the same thing? They look similar to me and both look crazy expensive. SHOP last 4 Q has made a tiny bit of profit while the other has lost money every Q.There a lot of tech companies selling at crazy multiples to EPS. I am hoping this COVID-19 scare will knock them down a lot; none the less, wondering about your take is on my commentary. Finding it hard to invest in this group.

Q: Hello,
In the short term, I expect that Lightspeed revenues will suffer if restaurant transactions are severely impacted due to the coronavirus (as you intimated in an answer to someone's previous question). As well, it's likely that people will be avoiding casinoes if the virus becomes widespread in Canada.
Can you please give me your rationale for suggesting cost averaging (I assume you meant buying into) Great Canadian Gaming? Would you wait until after earnings are reported on March 3rd to do so?
I currently have a significant position in GC, but was actually considering exiting for a while. Either decision may be a roll of the dice, but I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks.

Brad

Q: Would you suggest waiting for things to calm down or view this as an opportunity to top up smaller positions during this pullback? My question relates to my underweight yet more volatile holdings SHOP/LSPD/NVDA.
Thanks
Mike

Q: If you had to choose two at this time for a growth-oriented investor which would you go with?

Q: I currently hold the following technology equities in my portfolio: AAPL, TEAM, CSU, and LSPD. I'm considering selling LSDP (up 14%) and purchasing either SHOP or DSG. I would like a bit less volatility and more consistent growth. Does this seem reasonable and which would you choose or do you have another idea?
Thank you for your advice.
