Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello, I'm recently retired. I am seeking income generating vehicles for my various, registered plans (RRSP, LIRA, TFSA) to invest in. I'm considering an investment in ZWU. I'm wondering if there might be a similar, utilities based, covered call, ETF available for the American market?

Lastly, if any of these ETFs might also be available without the covered call overlay and if you believe that those versions of the ETFs might provide better, mid-term probability of a greater Total Return; I'd be interested in your opinion, as well.

Thank you!

Q: Financials are getting a lot of attention these days which I believe 5i believes is justified.
So I want to increase my weighting in this sector.

Question

Do you see more upside in USA banks and an etf like xlf over comparable Canadian holdings and/ or an etf like xfn ?

Is there a covered call etf for USAfinancials like ZWB for Canadian financials?

Thanks.

Q: In answer to Bruce on Jan 7 you said:
In an RRSP, we would prefer to hold US-listed ETFs due to withholding taxes on US dividends being exempt (not the case with CDN-listed ETFs).

This would mean that ZWK/CALL is not as efficient as it could be. Is there an equivalent US listed ETF that you would recommend? I am looking for an ETF that would let me drip the dividends. From your other answers I believe this type of ETF would be good in 2021: flat or slowly rising market.

Q: Hi

Thinking of changing the above mentioned for PHYS.CA in my RRSP accounts for some protection in the virus situation and what is going to occur after.

I do not need the dividends.

Comments please

Thank you

Mike

Q: ZWK has fallen dramatically in this oil and coronavirus crisis. It now yields more than 10% with a 16 cent monthly distribution. Is this higher yield now a red flag for this ETF and U.S. Banks in general? Your thoughts are appreciated on the risks for it going forward, and given it's holdings and exposure to this downturn, and history, the likelihood that it may cut it's distribution. Thank you.
