Q: Hi Folks,
I have the above companies in my TFSA all at the same or so weight. I had BYD but sold it when it started to drop. I am still ahead in my sold price as compared to its current price. I am looking to add another or even BYD now that it has settled somewhat, can you give me your suggestion as to what you would add to this lineup - buy back BYD or can you provide some others that I can add. Thank you very much for your suggestions over the years.

Q: Hello 5i,
Portfolio Analytics indicates that I need to add about 1.35% to my Consumer Discretionary/Cyclical and further that I need to increase my U.S. exposure by about 3.05%, so I am looking for a U.S. name that pays a decent dividend above, say, 2.25% in this sector & geography.
Some names that came up from a link (U.S. Dividend Aristocrats) you had previously supplied, in response to another question, that I was considering are:
Genuine Parts - GPC
Leggatt & Platt - LEG
McDonald's - MCD
VF Corp - VFC
So, my questions are:
1. Out of my list are there any concerns over dividend safety?
2. Safety of business in general?
3. Given my need for dividend income in this sector, would you have any other suggestions you might prefer over these names in terms of safety of both business and dividend?
My current Cons. Discretionary/Cyclical holdings are LNF in Canada and MGA (Magna) on the U.S. side.
Retired, income-oriented investor otherwise well-balanced and diversified.
Thanks for any help you can provide - always very much appreciated!!!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: We have one 2 year old grandchild, and one on the way. I want to set up a small $1000 investment account for each of them, and add to it each year on their birthday. Because of the small initial amount, I plan to cover the trade commissions. Who knows if it will work, but the object is over 20 years, to show them how buying a good company, with a solid, growing dividend, and adding funds regularly, will reap long term benefits. They will be able to follow the first $1000, and hopefully at least cause them to have some thoughts/questions about investing.
Realizing potential risk/reward, I am looking for stock ideas for low and medium, risk.
Can you recommend 3 companies that you would recommend in each risk level, for this type of idea,

I will probably add trading companies along the way, but I do want one low risk, and one medium risk, long term hold, to start.
Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter

To follow up on my earlier question, I forgot to mention that both my wife and I are planning to retire in 5 years. So, I am slowly changing my investments to be income focused and less on capital growth

Q: We have sold out of USA Tech and have several full positions of USA $ in registered accounts. I no longer wish to devote as much attention to investments.
We know that USA is not your forte but could you recommend a couple of dividend paying "layups". Buy it and forget it ? We acknowledge that nothing is a sure thing.
Thanks for Your help

Q: I raised a fair bit of cash in my RIF as the Covid madness marched on. I think I would like to buy USDollars with probably 1/2 the cash and buy some US dividend paying stocks. I need the income and I’m very concerned that this current government is going to cripple ( if not destroy) our economy..
I’m looking at stocks like Verizon, but what would you suggest?
Thanks for the great work!

Q: I have held IVE for many years and to sell I would have capital gains taxes to consider though not what they would have been a couple of months ago. Are there 3 - 5 dividend stocks that you think are solid bets to out perform the index coming out of the downturn over the medium term? (2-3 years)
Thanks Hugh

Q: What would be a good company to buy shares in for a teenager for his first investment? It was mentioned before that it increases interest in investing if the teen knows about the company. I was thinking of Costco, Disney, Mcdonalds?
Would you be able to provide a top 3-4 names in Canada and 3-4 in the US as suggestions? Thanks
