Q: I bought Hershey in my RRSP in mid-2024. While mostly known for chocolate, the company has been diversifying into non-chocolatey snacks. However, the stock price remains down due to high cocoa prices. Would you be content to hold Hershey and collect the dividend until cocoa prices drop? Would you have some other suggestions? I tend to go for boring US dividend payers that also have some growth potential in my RRSP. My top holdings right now are MSFT, COST, MA, BIP.UN, ENB, and O. I also hold VOO as an underlying holding. Thank you.

Q: I have just sold UL to garner a small tax loss. I would like to buy back in the new year but which is the better investment for dividend growth and growth UL or PG or should I hedge my bets and buy a bit of both ? Is there anything else in this sector that looks more promising?

Q: It's hard to beat a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but can you please provide your updated thoughts on the Hershey Company as a long term hold. It seems to have decent revenue and earnings growth for a Consumer Defensive stock, but I am concerned about its debt level. The stock price has really pulled back since early May.

Q: Thoughts on this company's metrics if one's portfolio is low in consumer staples. Buy, sell, or hold? If you don't like which consumer staples companies in the US are better and is it a bad time to add knowing they have done well in a bad market. Thinking people may sell and rotate into tech. Thank you!

Q: hi there,
I own both of these positions in a US 401K. They have done really well since the fall of 2018 and i am now overweight in Consumer Defensives. I am wondering if its too much of a good think and was thinking of trimming both of my positions at these valuations. However, these have been good names to be in for a market slowdown. Your thoughts. PS I am a retiree looking for income and a bit of growth.

Q: Hello Peter/Ryan,
I listed many names on the list in one question in order for other members benefiting from your advises as well. Feel free to deduct as many credits if it needs to be.

4-part questions:
1) Market rotation: Many solid consumer staples and industrial stocks went down significantly, what do you think of their directions in the next two years (I will get pay to wait if buy now) and what causing this downturn?
2) I list them in pair for long term hold over 5 years (pleas suggest a name that you like better)
FLR (Fluor-US) Industrials versus VEOEY/VEOEF (Veolia Env. ADR French) Environment-Water Treatment
DANONE ADR (French) versus Saputo
MDLZ (Mondelez -US) versus HSY (Hershey-US)/NSRGY (Nestle-CH Swiss co.)
KHC (Kraft Heinz-US) versus UL (unilever- UK)
PEP (Pepsi) versus KO (Coca cola)
3) Large international companies listed on US-OTC (over the counter) market instead of NYSE or NASDAQ to lower the listing cost and regulatory complexity of a stock exchange listing.
What to choose and ADR stock ticker ending with a Y (sponsored by a US Bank) or with a F (unsponsored) ? Why such a large price difference between them? In case of unsponsored ADR, how safe will it be time to sell the stock and time to get for the dividend declared.
In this case 52 weeks Low-High Veolia -VEOEY= 20.22 to 26.40 versus VEOEF = 19.50 to 26 (almost same dividend 1.03 versus 1.04)
4) Tax withholding:
Inside RRSP: none on US-UK co. shares and mostly 15% on European co. shares (anyway to get this back?)
Inside: TFSA: 15% in most cases (anyway to get this back)
Outside in investment account.

Thank you!
