Q: You can't argue with the success of BRK.B, but I do struggle with Apple at 50% of the portfolio weighting. It looks more like a bet on Apple than an investment in a diversfied portfolio. I wonder if BRK.B could achieve better returns if it was equally weighted across the sectors?

Thank you.

Q: Would you please suggest 3 CAD or USD stocks to be held in a TFSA; long horizon 20+ years.

Q: BRK.B currently comprises 15% of my portfolio. Within the Portfolio Tracking and Analysis tool, it suggest that this a financial sector, and as such I am above the recommend allocation. However would not BRK be consider more diversified. Should I rebalance my portfolio away from Financials if this is to be considered?

Q: The 3 BN, BLK and BRK.B are the largest financial holdings in my portfolio. I would like to consolidate 3 holdings into 2 only. Which 2 do you recommend? I have 20+ years horizon and have high risk tolerance. Priority is growth, no need for div for 20+ years.

Q: Hi team,

In your replies to questions you sometimes refer to "sleep at night stocks". Those above were so qualified, among others.
I would very much appreciate if you could provide a good list of such stocks at this point, both Canadian and U.S., in order of potential growth in 5 years or less, with a short comment summarizing your present view on each.

Please use as many credits as you see fit.

Gratefully,

Jacques IDS

Q: Hello,

I'm investing some savings of my mother she doesn't need before many years but we avoid higher risk stocks, she is 75 years.

Actually, she owns BN, GSY, TFII.

Looking to add 1 or 2 stocks to this list. I have been looking to your porfolios and considering ATD, PBH, DOL, PBH, SHOP. CDR could be a nice opportunity with VISA for exemple.

How would you rank them for potential return on 3 to 5 years? Do you see better opportunities?

Thanks,

Q: What is your opinion on the use of CDR's (Canadian Deposit Receipts) for the purchase of US Stocks? Also, what type of accounts would be the most beneficial and be the most risk in the use of them, RRSP, TSFA, RESP, or non-registered accounts?
I've recently purchased Palo Alta, Visa and Adobe using CDR's and it seems to be a way of getting US exposure while avoiding the immediate approximate 30% currency exchange, while using a CAD hedging process.
If you are somewhat positive on CDR's, what other US stocks would be good considerations.

thanks,

Q: Hi guys,

I have BRK.B, SPY & I2I as my only etfs in my U.S. portfolio, all around 2%. I know you can't provide personal advice, however, inside a normal balance portfolio what would be the range for each (bottom 2% to high10%)?
Thanks,

Jim

Q: At current valuations what would be your top 3 picks, regardless of sector, amongst the available CDR's for a long term hold within the TFSA of a 26 year-old (top 4 picks if NVDA happens to be one of your top 3 choices). If you then also throw LMN, CSU, BA and ATD into the mix what would your ranking be (best to worst) along with your conviction/confidence level (10 = most confident, 0 = least confident) for each choice and a brief statement as to why. Many thanks.

Q: Hi team,

Grateful if you could provide a list of what you see as the best canadian and the best U.S. blue chips at this time for building a solid portfolio with a growing future. It would help to know what guided your choices.

Deduct as many credits as you see fit.

Q: 1) If you could only hold 10 names from 5i’s Balanced portfolio with the aim of maximizing total returns over 10 years, what would you choose?

2) Same as previous question, but the 10 names can be any security, Canadian or U.S.

Thank you!

Q: If you were expecting a bit of a market swoon and don't want to sit on cash what would you consider to be "defensive stocks" or "stocks that benefit" in downturns? I've tried options in the past with mixed (mostly not so good) results so that's not something I would like to do.

Thanks in advance-Dave

Q: I have 4 stocks doing very well in my TFSA, MSFT, BRK.B, VI and APPL. Recently I noted that COSTCO is doing very well and I am considering adding it to my TFSA but am out of space. 1) do you think that adding Costco to my TFSA is a good idea and 2) if so which of the my current stocks above should I replace?
Many thanks. Jane
