Q: What's your view on the idea of opening up Canadian Banking to more competition and the effect it will have on their share prices. Will they still be a 'go to' for Canadian investors or do you anticipate a sharp decline? Great service, thanks.
Q: Good morning,
Would you buy BMO at these levels ?
Thank you,

Q: I want to buy one of the big banks for a 10 year hold and I'm leaning toward BNS. I'm dependent upon some fixed income so need either the yield, or combo of yield/growth. Which bank would you suggest. Thanks.

Q: Hello - I am an income investor. My view has been to construct my portfolio with companies that pay growing dividends as a way to offset inflation. With BCE’s announcement of reduced expected dividend growth in the future I am considering shifting that portion of my portfolio somewhere else. Can you please provide the stated expected ranges of dividend growth (as a %) of these companies? Please take all the credits you wish. Thank you

Q: I seem to recall one of the "Market Masters" saying the time to load up on Financials is after they have been crushed. I know you don't necessarily like the expression "load up" but if you wanted to increase your Cdn bank exposure are there one or two you think stand out as having the biggest bounce potential from here, or would you forget about trying to be right on one or two securities and just buy the ETF if you believe the whole sector might recover from these levels? Thanks for your thoughts.

Q: Hello,
Over the years I have fallen into the trap of buying BNS as many analysts have promoted as the most international bank, as as a result I have 7.5% position. However, I have now come to the realization that the countries that they do business ( mainly South and Latin America) are in most cases very poor countries with little or no growth and unstable Governments.. As well, the bank's CEO's poor performance. Therefore, As soon as I hear what the new CEO has to say in a couple of weeks, I will slowly exit the position . What are you thoughts in moving the funds to TD or NA or BMO?
Thanks
Carlo
Thanks

Q: Hi 5i
Not sure if I have my facts straight on this questions, but, I Recently read that BMO is shopping/selling their portfolio of RV loans, which I think they inherited with the bank of the west deal....and that this is another red flag concerning underlying BMO profitability and negatively affecting share price., ect, ect....Is there any truth to this and in your opinion actually an additional red flag that investors need to pay additional attention to. If so how would this deal work and to what degree would you be concerned?
thx

Q: Hi 5i
With the markets ability to "price in fore casted earnings etc"...How to you expected BMO share prices and other banks to react to already expected reduced profit, increased loss provisions ect.
Banks have been on a steady decline coming into earnings....and wondering how much further they might go....
opinion...
Thx

Q: Saturday morning on CBC Mark Warner warned viewers not to be too overconfident about Canadian banks compared to US banks. His reasoning was that Canadian banks have been buying banks in the US.
As I am a holder of Canadian banks this has me concerned. I was wondering if you could shed some light on his comment and which banks might be at the most risk.

Q: I am looking to put some USD, currently held inside an RSP to work on either of these Cdn banks. Is there a preference, or should I look at buying both? Also, would it be better to buy the US listed stock, as I have USD - or convert to Cdn dollars and buy the Cdn listed stock?
Many thanks!

Q: Regarding purchases made on US exchanges….
a) If I purchase Canadian companies in my margin account on the NYSE in US dollars, will the dividends also be paid in US currency? What will the withholding measures be on those dividends?
b) If I purchase European companies on US exchanges, what will the withholding measures be on those European dividends? (Germany, France)

Q: The top ten positions in my equity portfolio represent 30% of the portfolio. Among these top ten are TD, BAM, BAC and JPM. The financial sector represents 27.5% of the equity portfolio and the 5i analysis suggests that this be reduced to 15%. I am a new 5i client and don’t disagree with the direction the model is suggesting. Other holdings in the financial sector are: BMO, BNS,CG,C,MFC,PYPL,PNC,RY,SLF,BX,X,V. This is a bit messy but adding to the sector in the spring seemed like and was a good idea but now we need to be more conventional. I may be very wrong but I don’t consider BAM and X as financial services, particularly BAM. Looking at the holdings, what would you unload to bring down the financial sector exposure? Obviously a tax filter will be needed at my end. The question for another day will be an ask for recommendations to increase the under-weighted sectors. Having fun with the model and more importantly find it useful.
