Q: Hi,
I am low on energy and pipelines, as ENB.TO is my only holding in this sector. Most of the available cash I have on hand is in a US dollar RSP account, which I do not have to convert to a RIF for another 4 years. I've listed some stocks that have my attention, and wonder if it is reasonable to purchase now, as they're mostly at new 52 week highs, except OGS and VZ. Do you think these will still have room for further gains, or am I essentially too late and taking a risk these will roll over quickly as we inch closer to a US recession? Are there others you would prefer that aren't listed and any of the above that would be higher risk in this market environment? Take the appropriate points for the multiple questions. Thanks for you continued valuable insight!

Q: Regarding purchases made on US exchanges….

a) If I purchase Canadian companies in my margin account on the NYSE in US dollars, will the dividends also be paid in US currency? What will the withholding measures be on those dividends?
b) If I purchase European companies on US exchanges, what will the withholding measures be on those European dividends? (Germany, France)

Q: I'm curious to know how the current shareholders of T are going to benefit from the pending sale of the TI unit. I get that T winds up with a big bag of cash and call me grumpy but I'm guessing there'll be sizeable bonuses for the very capable execs who put this together. What does the common shareholder get, other than a stronger company? The company was already strong and much loved, enjoying a deep regulatory moat. What do they plan to do with the proceeds and will those plans likely ( or even maybe) cause share values to increase appreciably? Any chance the commoners who were owners all along will get a special dividend or a dividend increase or even a cup of coffee? Just cause we're swell guys, and gals. Grump, grump.

Q: Hi 5i
In a recent question re adding to a well balanced TFSA you had offered 12 securities from your income / balanced portfolios that are relatively lower risk and longer holds. I was delighted to see that my RRIF currently has 8 of those full positions.(also well balanced)
I have accumulated a larger cash position due to dividends in my RRIF and wonder what 5 securities for long term (forever) you might consider to add at this time. Thanks for the advice. Peter

Q: I had not previously followed TELUS because I already had BCE and AT&T. I recently threw in the towel on Vodaphone, although since then VOD is getting positive comments in some investing letters. I have however been intrigued by TELUS after I noticed its presence at clinics and hospitals . Telus invested in health-oriented companies and am further impressed by its recent acquisitioni of the Canadian part of ADT.
Would the strategies being followed by TELUS encourage you to start a position in TELUS? Is T.ca now morphing into a growth company too? Does it have the cash flow and earnings to continue aggressive growth strategies ?

Q: I am not happy with Telus decision to go 5G with Huawei mostly for security reasons but also, the possibility that the government may say no to Huawei 5G if they stop and listen to their national security arm including the Military. I own BCE now, is there another equivalent in North America you could recommend? Thanks
