Q: Are there any Canadian and/or American small to mid cap companies in the same field that Score was, that have the potential to do well over the next two to five years. Thanks.
Q: Hi 5i Team - I hold shares in Enthusiast Gaming. Besides continuing to hold I would like to add another stock in the same space. I am looking to add Brag and Penn. Do you have a preference over these two. Also do have any other recommendations in the gaming and/or e-sports space, especially in the small and mid caps. Thanks.
Q: Peter and Team:
With the takeover of Score by Penn, I ended up with some Penn shares. Since that transaction, they have fallen $20.00. Would you add at this level. I also own some EGLX.
I have to crystalize some losses to offset gains. I have a substantial position in ABCL (-56%) and BHC (-78%) and can sell either completely and be done with offsetting the gains. Do you suggest I do that or should I get rid of SDGR (-23%), BMBL (-38%) and PENN (-23%) as well ,if ABCL is worth holding onto, at least partially?
I know other than BHC, they all do have a good bounce potential after the tax-loss season is over. However, I also know that something like BMBL or even ABCL may be broken stories and may take a very long time to recover.
I appreciate it if you can share in which order you would sell and why (if you could kindly include the main reason for each).
Many of my growth stocks are getting hammered after barely missing on some metric (Apps, Roku, MGNI, LSPD), but I am here for the long haul. Would PENN qualify as something to hold on to or should I let it go, given its high debt?
Just wanted to ask how the tax works for capital gains following PENN buying out SCR. I got some cash and some shares of PENN.
Do I subtract my ACB from the cash to claim the capital gain and leave PENN shares out of this? Or do I have to consider the shares from PENN also as capital gain?
If the latter is true then we assume that I had sold all my SCR shares at a profit and have to pay taxes on total gain.
Thanks for clarifying this and a lot more everyday for us! :)
Q: Hello 5i, I had shares of Score in a TFSA account and a SDRSP acct and now I have PENN in both accounts. Could you comment as to can PENN be held in these 2 accounts and the tax issues in both accounts.
I own SCR in my TFSA account and pleased with the recent acquisition announcement. However, I am not sure if I will receive Penn shares or Exchangeco shares when the deal finally closes.
I am assuming I would receive Penn shares as tax is not a consideration while holding this security in my TFSA. Is this a correct assumption?
Also, would I have to make an election prior to the upcoming special meeting on October 12th or would 'no action' allow the process to unfold as recommended and I end up with cash and Penn shares in my TFSA.
Q: What is the "Exchangeco" company? Does it makes sense to take the option of exchangeco shares?
From the circular:
Eligible Canadian shareholders will be able to elect to receive shares of Exchangeco (“Exchangeable Shares”) in lieu of the Penn Shares to which they would otherwise be entitled. Each whole Exchangeable Share will be exchangeable for one whole Penn Share, subject to adjustment.
Q: Greetings:
I know because it has been mentioned countless times that you are not tax experts, but perhaps you can help. When does a section 85 form need to be filed and when not? In the case of IPL, PWF, Uranium participation by Sprott Uranium Trust it is necessary, but not with score media and Penn. Perhaps it depends if it is a merger or acquisition, and what determines this. Perhaps the rules have changed in the last months. Thanks for your help.
BEN.
Q: Hello Peter,
Can you comment on Greenlane's earnings release? Is it worth adding to it? Also, for Nuvei and Well, are both worth adding or just a hold for now? With current numbers for knight, beating on eps and revenues, do you think the company is finally showing signs of upward movement in the stock price ( it is up but are things looking good now). On my last question on Enthusiast Gaming,, is the stock a hold now and any ideas as to why it was not one of the takeover targets ( i know it is speculation but why would you think score over eglx). Much appreciated for your comments.
Q: Re SCR, nice news today. I hold shares in a non-registered account. Penn National is a U.S. listing and I'm concerned about holding them in a non registered account so I expect to sell my shares before the transaction closes.
Is there a "best time" to sell. Thanks John
