Q: Great and timely article yesterday on this "Phoenix market". With that in mind, which companies in the US manufacturing, health care, energy and technology industries would you be comfortable putting money into today with a 10 plus year hold with a medium/high risk tolerance? Are there any US names that you think should be full positions in the majority of such portfolios? Please feel free to deduct as many question credits as you deem appropriate.

Q: According to Portfolio Analytics, I'm underweight in Industrial, Consumer Defensive, Utilities and Energy. Can you please give me three names to consider in each category? I'm also overweight in North America so, to the extent that there are good international names in these categories, please include them. I have a fairly long investment horizon: 5 years until my children hit post-secondary and 20-30 years before retirement.
Thanks.

Q: If you were entering new money today to try to yield at least 4 or 5 percent, what would be your top 5-10 dividend income stocks in Canada that you feel would be a safe hold for at least ten years? Alternatively, what would be your top dividend stocks in the U.S. obviously yielding less?

Q: Hi Guys,

I'm starting to get interested in the energy sector for more of a long term hold. The sector has been crushed but I don't believe the world is going to abandon oil and gas any time soon. Looking for a producer that pays a dividend, so I can get a return while I wait. What companies would you guys suggest?

Q: I would like to have a little fun with this question. Imagine a boxing match between Canadian companies and American companies...each round is represented by a sector so lets say it is a fight gone bad and there are extra rounds covering 11 sectors. Please pick a favourite Canadian Contender and a strong American contender for each round and who wins the round. Example Round 10 Technology Red corner Constellation Software vs Blue corner Microsoft. Won by Microsoft or Constellation Software. The rules...If you wish to give reasons why the round went one way or another, it's your choice. A good clean fight use the criteria of your investment strategies. The point...I am curious if the Canadian Companies stack up and in what areas I should be looking at South of the border. Thank you

Q: Dear Peter and Ryan.
Thank you for your help through the volatile market. Though the Economy is not back yet, we may be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. I checked a few stocks. Airlines and Energy have been down a lot. I want to take advantage of the market and consider allocating 10% of my RRSP to these companies (AC, UAL, EXPE, CVX and SU). I like to think about 2-3 years or longer. Currently I don't own any airlines. I own TOU only for oil industry.

Thank you,
Yiwen

Q: Last year global oil demand again hit a new record, over 100M barrels PER DAY. Even with renewables increasing, the demand for oil is continuing to increase and the EIA expects this trend to continue for a long time since global energy demand is will grow and renewables won`t even be able to keep up with demand. So assuming oil goes from 100M consumption per day to 120M barrels, what oil companies do you see benefiting the most. If Alberta oil continues to be landlocked due to political reasons, would it be best to look to the USA who now have record exports. If so who would be the best companies. Or do you think that with Canada being curtailed it will mainly benefit state owned companies like Iran, Saudi.
