Q: I did reorganise my portfolios in 2022 for a majority of diversified dividend ETFs and a minority of selected excellent dividend stocks. This strategy was satisfactory ,and I shall not sell this content in 2023.My strategy in 2023 will consider the possibility of a bear market,I shall only " add-on" some stocks on weakness .Could you list 10 canadian+10 us stocks ( not ETFs), among the safest in a bear market in your opinion, including 7 dividend stocks+3 growth stocks for each list, and rank them for safety if possible, many thanks,JY

Q: I am looking to add to the consumer defensive part of my portfolio, I already own Loblaws (L:CA) and Costco (COST:US). What other stocks do you recommend based on low debt/strong balance Sheet, secure and growing dividend, and some growth.
Many Thanks

Q: This is for my wife's RRSP, she is now 70 and will soon have to start withdrawing. Have recently sold J&J and have about 17K to re-invest. For the US portion of her portfolio she currently holds: AMTD; FB; AT&T; MSF. For stability (preservation of capital), some growth and growing dividends which of the above which you recommend without regard to sector. If you can suggest another or even two securities with better overall qualities that meet my requirements, I would appreciate your suggestion.

Q: Hello Peter and the 5i team

I recently went to see a financial advisor from my bank (I personally manage about 75% of my equity portfolio and I allow my advisor to run about 25%, this is due to my company pension plan that puts the money into the advisors hands.). She asked me what my long term plans were with my portfolio, I said "1. To beat the market (tsx), 2. Find good companies that pay dividends and buy them for a fair price. 3. Focus on companies that have consistent Dividend growth. 4. Have the portfolio reasonably diversified. I also said that I would like it if I could make my portfolio large enough so that the dividends could pay for my retirement living." She seemed baffled by this comment, almost as if she had not seen a person live solely off dividends. I thought that getting a company like CHD in my basket of stocks was a great idea since it has paid a dividend for 114 years in a row or HRL that has increased its dividend for 50 years in a row, there are many many great examples of companies that would fit into this example. I sort of dismissed her confusion, but later it got me to thinking "Is my plan flawed"??? Is living off dividend paying companies not a excellent tax advantaged way to live in my retirement?? If my plan is flawed what is a better plan?? Another question I have "does the TSX 60 index dividend over time increase faster then the rate of inflation and the cost of living over say the last 30 years"?

Thanks you

Q: Hello Peter and the 5I team

I have watched CHD for years and I owned it sometime ago but sold it. I can't remember what I was thinking when I sold it, because I consider this stock a juggernaut. The stock crash of 2008-09 didn't really seem to effect it much. Since then it has done very well. What are your thoughts on this stock? Would you own it at this level? Where do you think this stock is going? I appreciate your thoughts on it.

Thanks
