Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: What are some of your favorite US growth names right now? I am a younger investor with some money to deploy. I have a 20+ year time horizon. I am not too worried about sector allocation due to having a defined benefits pension when I eventually retire (20+ years).

I am also wondering what US stocks 5i staff are currently buying and why.

Thanks for all your advice. I read the questions daily. Your support through these tough times (my first as an investor) has been beyond insightful and finding I am getting my financial education through your words of wisdom and advice. I keep speaking highly of you to my friends looking to get into investing and am encouraging they subscribe to your service as it is beyond exceptional.

Thanks for all that you all do! Hope you and yours are safe and healthy during these tough times.

Q: HI there,

Two part question here. First, why is EXAS (in your opinion) being crushed so badly? It has fallen much more than GH. Something fundamentally wrong or one you would expect to bounce back hard and is thus worth adding to.

Secondly, would you suggest taking a 50% loss on EXAS to move to something like ABBV that pays a 7%+ dividend and seems safer? Jim Cramer advocates selling some stocks to move into more premium stocks that are also down and I'm wondering if this would be an example.

Please feel free to take 2 credits and provide complete answers to each part.

Q: Hello 5i,
I need to increase the following: ABBVIE, CCL, AQN. ENB. LSPD. and TCL. Some like LSPD I hold as a satellite as I am mostly a value investor but will take advantage of your suggestions on a good growth opportunity but smaller scale than my value equities. Please list the above in the order that I would slowly increase these holdings by $2,000 at a time.
thank you

Q: Hi all,

I had limited Healthcare exposure (only from small positions in VXUS and VGRO). Recently added Abbvie and Pfizer on price weakness. Combined these 2 equal about 5% of my Holdings.
3 questions:
1-Comments on ABBV latest quarter? (Seems good)
2-Good Entry point for these companies for a long term hold?
3-Do these 2 companies compliment each other well or should I consider adding another stock or ETF for more Healthcare exposure?

Thanks as always for the great service!

Q: Good morning,

Two questions this morning. Both are would you make the switch?

I have JNJ that I bought at the $65.00 range back in 2011I think. Would you sell and switch it to ABBV?? Or stay the course?

Same goes for PPL. I have owned it for quite a while and it has gone up nice. Would you switch it to IPL or stay the course?

Thanks
Jimmy

Q: Hi,

I would like to get your opinion on the following healthcare and industrial stocks I am planning to buy in equal amounts. Would you recommend any other stocks for long term investments under my registered accounts.

Healthcare:- ABBV, MDT,PFE,GILD
Industrials:- HON,ITW, UTX

CELG is at a better value currently. Would you buy that instead of ABBV ?

Appreciate your service.

Thanks

Q: Greetings team 5i,

Beside my core portfolio, I invest about 5% of my money in a “fun” portfolio. It has not been much fun recently. I bought ABBV (at the top) in order to write covered calls and cash-secured uncovered puts.

These calls, written just out-of-the-money and puts written just in-the-money on Mondays with the expiry date on the Friday of the same week, have produced premiums ranging from $US0.81 to $US2.73 which happened this week.

Why is there such a wide range of premium prices and what do the higher premiums suggest?

Thank you.

Q: ABBV share price has slumped from approx. $95 to $82.50 in the past 5 days. Marinol was recently approved by the FDA. ABBV currently has a Forward P/E ratio of 10.72. I understand that the industry's average Forward P/E is 15.85.

What is your view of this stock. Seems like it might be an opportune time to buy and play the marijuana angle from a safe distance.

The Webinar yesterday was great. I hope there are more. Thank you for your services.

Q: Hi Team, sold my shares of RHT this morning. Transferring remaining capital from sale to US RRSP for another healthcare name. Someone on T.V last night was screaming Medtronic for a buy ,from my own readings and research I see Stryker as a good choice. Between the 2 which has a better growth profile. Which would you choose. I own ABBV and BDX for a total healthcare exposure of 17%. I Thank-you in advance! Like usual,......Great work team! Sam
