Q: Internal Damage?

When companies go through a major drop from their 52 week high (TSGI -60%, SIS -41%, GRUB-51%, NVDA-53%, KXS-35%) What kind of internal damage is created? I'm thinking employee moral, to stock options, to the ability to finance future growth? Other items? It's very tempting to continue to average down (although my dry powder is getting low) but when a company loses 40%-50% of it's value is it the same company anymore? Or is buying something like a Microsoft (down only 11%) a more prudent investment? (i.e. it hasn't breached a point of internal damage)

My holding period is very long, but I'm wondering if the current steep discounts currently are somewhat false illusions...

Q: Hi Folks
Looking to add some companies with the following qualities to my portfolio. 1) in a fast growing non-cyclical industry 2) must be the best company or companies in it and 3) excellent management today and hopefully, in the future - can you provide some names that you feel meet the three criteria.
thanks for a great service

Q: I am trying to consolidate my U.S. TFSA into ETF's. On the tech side I own AMZN( nice profit) NVDA ( down 38%) and SPOT (down 4%) I am thinking of selling them and buying QQQ ETF instead.
On the financial side I own JPM (down 2.7%) V (down 1%) and SQ (down 6%) Thinking of selling these and buying DGRO ETF.
Your thoughts on this? Also if there are other ETF's that you think would be better for tech and financials, please let me know. Please deduct two credits if you deem it necessary.
Thanks for your great advice,
Jen

Q: Crypto mining has driven NVDA's stock price for some years now, but its currencies' decline will surely take a heavy toll on GPU sales into that market. Yes, AI and autonomous vehicle applications could expand, and consumers will continue to play video games, but are these enough to create actual earnings growth, or is NVDA more likely to tread water for a few years?

Q: I have a question about Nvidia. Tough to see it down on an up day (Nov 21) for the nasdaq. Not that I know much about Zacks but I see they have a "strong sell" on it today (not clear to me if their opinion is new today though). Are you still strong on Nvidia or would you suggest a U.S. replacement? Thanks.

Q: Looking at the US market for a 2-3 year horizon. Like TSG, SMSEY, XLK, NVDA and TEAM do you see any problem with taking full positions now and what 2-3 additions would you make and or remove.

Thank-you as always for your insight.

Q: I can see that I was one of many concerned about Nvidia's reporting later that day. Peter wrote in on Nov. 15 in the morning asking about analyst's expectations on Nvidia's numbers. You told him it was 1.92 EPS and 3.2B for revenue. These numbers didn't mean anything to me. I hope the next time you can elaborate such as these numbers don't look good or they do look good, etc.. Or when companies that 5i clients own and they have a possible bad number reporting, you could make note of that ahead of time. Thank you Dennis

Q: I have a long time to wait on investments and don’t have much interest in trading, as I prefer value investing.
1)I’m still up 30% on Nvidia, with a long term in mind. Do you think it’s better to sell out now and buy back later, or do you see enough growth and value coming to make it better to just sit on and wait?

2)I’m trying to build the core of my portfolio around long term holdings in strong dividend payers (with a bias towards aristocrats) and use all drips available, and even proxy drips through my broker when I need to. Could you give me your top 1-3 dividend payers for each Sector (with a bias towards dividend growth and safety/ aristocrats).
Also, I’ve read lots of articles that state that dividend investing on average out performs the market by a few% per year, just without most of the wild swings. Do you agree?
Hopefully my rambling makes sense...
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan,
Thanks for the great service Peter and Ryan. It is trying times for portfolios

We picked up AMZN (2%), KXS (1%), ZCH (2%) and GOOGL (1%) in the last few days. Also owned is BABA (3%), NVDA (2%). We have 25% in cash available. Is tech recommended to be 15% or 20% of a portfolio as of today with all the recent drops? I am going against the grain here for a bump up in 2019. Of AMZN, BABA, KXS, GOOGL, FB, MFST, BIDU, & PHO, and an outlier BYD.UN which 2-3 stocks are most appealing for a recovery?

Cheers
Jerry and Debbie

Q: I had the pleasure of listening in on the conference call last week. One theme that I agree with is to sell your losers. I understand you mean on fundamentals, not price alone. I am holding some of your favorites, and they have all taken a bath with the market. I wonder if it is time to let any go, or are they all still a hold
CAD: GSY, DOO, PHO
USD: NVDA, BOX, GRUB
