Investment Q&A

Q: As we move into 2022 I find myself looking for long-term trends that I can believe in and consequently feel safe to invest in. It seems to me that:
1. FINTEC
2. Cyber security
3. Payments
are three such trends. I'm curious if you agree with my three choices and if you do could you suggest a couple of companies in each trend that would be your favourites. Finally, are there other viable long term trends that you think I have missed?

Q: Could you please give me 3-4 U.S. stocks you like for growth, regardless of sector and advise also why you like them.

Q: For the 6 big techs listed above, could you please list in order of best to "least best", for a buy and forget 10-year hold. Can you also list the 6 from least risky to highest risk. If you were going concentrate on only 4, what would they be at this time?

I know that it is a good idea to either have a certain number of US stocks that are not represented in Canada, or an etf for the US market, in order to have a balanced portfolio. Fortunatly, or unfortunatly, I have both. And I am wondering whether I should either get rid of my stocks or get rid of my etf's. The above are the US stocks I hold. in pretty good percentages. If i were to hold only stocks what might you suggest to supplement these? I know that I am probably heavy in tech to really represent the US market and will probably have to trim here, maybe in percentages. any other suggestions appreciated. Most of these are held in tax sheltered accounts, so taxes shouldnt matter too much.

I have studiously avoided investing in tech companies, largely as a result of not taking an interest in/understanding their businesses. (This is similar to my reason for never investing in crypto, which I can see only as a load of hogwash.)

With the recent drawback in tech prices, I now have some interest in putting some money into a couple of tech stocks that have a good growth outlook in the near- and mid-term. With that as the goal, simply some growth over the next few months or year, what 2-3 names, Canadian or American, would you suggest? (NB: I am thinking of putting no more, and probably less, than 10% of my portfolio into this play.)

Q: I have TTD, PLTR, NVDA, PLTR, NVDA, CRWD, APPS, UCTT, CELH, AFRM, MTTR, UPST, VEEV, in my US account, and LSPD, SHOP, EGLX, TIXT in my Canadian (and holdings in other sectors, but these are the holdings in question). I don't need to sell anything, but don't have new funds to deploy in the low market. I had a lot of positions in tech going in and already thinking about consolidating the sector when the market turned. I wonder if you see anything that should be sold, and added to something else to maximize growth when the market turns good again, or if it is better not to shuffle at this point.

Q: I am considering positions in Digital Turbines, Crowdstrike, Twilio and Nvidia as the market declines. What is your short and long term views on these companies? Is 1/3 positions a good strategy until the markets settle??

Q: I'm looking for the best robotic company [manufacturer] to buy. Would this ETF be a good buy now or could you recommend something better in robotics?

Q: Hi, we are trying reduce our Technology exposure in US stocks. These are the companies held in our portfolio, in this sector, with weighting in descending order as follows: AAPL,MSFT,AMZN,MA,V,GOOG,PYPL,NVDA and ISRG.

Q: I have CCP corporation and would appreciate your recommendations for buy and forget stocks (moderate risk; 10-year hold). With such high dividend taxes in the CCPC, I would prefer stocks that pay a lower dividend or no dividend. A question was recently asked concerning your preference between msft and Nvidia. You said you preferred Microsoft. I was wondering if you could elaborate on your reasons for that decision? I ask because I hold the two of them and have been thinking of selling Microsoft in order to reduce my technology component.
