Next year I will be retiring, and currently I have the outlined stocks in my RRSP, I'm happy with all of them, I think I would like to sell some of them (or trim down, slowly -no rush) and buy stocks/etf that will provide resilience , some yield, and perhaps some growth , can you please provide me with some ideas, 3 or more , I was thinking BN, add more to VFV.

Q: With US inflationary concerns (hopefully) receding and the Fed finally pausing on US interest rate hikes (again hopefully) I'm hopeful the US market strength will broaden from some of the mega cap names like NVDA down to more mid-cap opportunities. Are there any mid ($2.5-20bn market cap) names you like currently/would suggest? (US or Canadian)

Q: Have some cash in US $ registered account dedicated to Tech. In TOTAL Portfolio (CDN & US), we currently own NVDA (8.4%) CSU (7.3%) SHOP (4.7%) GOOG (4.5%), QCOM (4%) MSFT (3.7%), CRWD (2.5%) META (2%) TOI (1.6%)
Have some US $ available, considering : PERI, PSTG, ADOBE, AMZN, SMCI, AI, AMD. Of these, which 2 or 3 would you add to the Tech portfolio (if any) and what would you see as a reasonable purchase price.

Mr. Kim Bolton who has my respect as a guest on BNN, suggested yesterday that one may want to take some profits off NVDA and re-direct the cash to AMD/ADI. Not sure if he said TSM in the same Q&A or added later. I am of course paraphrasing his response. Any opinions on these companies or comments about such a strategy? Do these companies pass your writing covered call approach?

Q: 1.We have a bit of a debate going on regarding the merits of shorting stocks and doing so when they have the kind of pop such as Nvda had last week.

If someone shorted $10,000 of Nvda at the close of business last Friday, how much would be lost as of the close of business today ( Thursday)?


2. AVGO Same type of situation: buy AVGO end of business yesterday….and loss as of today ( Friday ) close ?

Q: Is it too late to get into NVDA? Is it a FOMO trade now? Where would you put new money for growth (3-5 years) NVDA, SMCI, AMD or some other name? Please reply with a short reason and take as many credits as needed. Thanks in advance.

Q: The sudden price rise in NVDA seems like a bubble. While I want to continue to own this company into the future, is it time to take some off the table?

In other words, would you recommend sell, say, a quarter of it now and wait for a pullback to buy more? Would you wait and perhaps do this down the road?

Q: I hold UNITY and APPS , now less than 1% and at a substantial loss as part of a US $ registered account tilted to growth and, intentionally, heavy in tech. In addition to the above two, it has the following holdings, with % shown of TOTAL (U.S. & Cdn) portfolio, followed by % of profit/loss, Our Canadian portfolio is balanced and much larger.

META .75% (+21%) , TEAM 1.9% (0%), CRWD 2.7% (-20%),
QCOM 3.7% (+45%), MSFT 3.8%(+116%), GOOG 4.5%(+6%), and NVDA 8.8% (+200%).

I am looking at selling U and APPS and perhaps TEAM (?) , increasing META to about 1.5 and looking for something new. Maybe SMCI - but after the parabolic increase in the last month maybe that needs to be on a pullback. Anything about this that you would do differently., including alternatives to SMCI ?

Q: I compared the 6 month stock price performance of the following as Nasdaq stocks and as CDR's:: AAPL, AMZN, GOOG, META, & NVDA
All stocks showed better returns on the Nasdaq.
than as CDR's probably due to currency fluctuation but I am puzzled by the huge discrepancy in the gains between the 2 exchanges. eg. AAPL & NVDA show a 25% higher gain - AMZN 12.4% - GOOG 16% - META 1.7%
Can you explain?

Q: Took advantage of the 27% increase in NVDA today to reduce my holding to 5% and free up some cash. Looking for advice on how best to redeploy these funds. I already hold MSFT, GOOG and AMZN. I've been looking at AAPL, but am concerned about the geopolitics surrounding the company's manufacturing operations in China. Does this add a significant layer of uncertainty to investing in this company? Including AAPL, please provide a total of three names - in ranked order (best first) - where I could invest funds today. (Not sure if META would be one of them, but please exclude. Can't support the corporate ethos.) Thank you.

This is more of a second order question - so nvda is clearly doing very well, where could we look for benefit on the supplier side, ie. the inputs for what they need for the AI?

Q: We have a well-diversified portfolio with 40+ securities (11 small/mid caps presently under 1% of portfolio). Is Nvidia a corporation YOU would let run up to 6-7% of your protfolio?

Thanks to your good advice we have many excellent stocks with the only clinkers due to my own buying exuberance or holding securities too long.
