Q: Dear 5i
Are smci and vrt different enough to own both in a TFSA ?
Also i was thinking of buying NVDA for one TFSA and AMD for the other TFSA as a way of not betting just on one or the other . Would you agree with this line of thinking or not ?
Thanks

Q: In the midst of portfolio rebalancing for the coming year and have another question with regard to composition. I've been reading your comments around the positive prospects for tech in 2024 and want to overweight that sector. I am currently at 18% tech (NVDA, MSFT, LMN). But I also hold GOOG (technically Communications) at 5.46% and AMZN (technically Consumer Cyclical) at 7.39%. Within the context of an alpha-balanced portfolio, would you recommend increasing my tech holdings further, or do you believe I am sufficiently weighted in this sector given my additional holdings in AMZN and GOOG? Thank you.

Q: Peter,
what would be your list of baby Mag 7 that have high probability of solid growth and show possibility of becoming the new Mag member? Do you see AMD as a potential contender?

Q: May I have your thoughts on SNPS and their acquisition of ANSYS? Since some shares are being issued to finance the purchase should I wait to see if the stock declines before taking the plunge? The market seems to like the purchase as SNPS's shares went up instead of declining when the deal was announced. The stock price was fairly steady until 2016 when it began a steep climb up, what changed? Or was it us, the buyers, whose attitude to their business changed? Is their business model very similar to NVDA or in a different niche?
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
Regards,
Jim

Q: PSA

i find it funny that the media fawns over these great companies; gushing over their collective 2023 'huge gains

never mentioning that 5 of 7 haven't even made it back to their 2021 price

so those unlucky enough to have bought at the last euphoria (fall 2021) or almost breaking even

(and yes, i agree these are some fabulous businesses)

good luck

Q: Hello 5i,

We have a full position in VGT and 1/2 position in BRK.B in an RRSP and NVDA, AMD, and Google in our TFSA's.

Do you see reduced growth in the VGT & BRK.B ETF's with AAPL downgrades and a possibility of consolidation of MSFT this year after stellar 2023 numbers?

Would you swap VGT or BRK.B to another ETF for 2024 or just let it ride?

Thank you for your advice

Q: Robotics were a big part of the latest CES show in Las Vegas.

I would like to know what your best investment ideas to play this secular trend. I believe with the increased cost of labour this trend will only accelerate.
I am looking for your best stocks or ETF ideas to put in an RRSP to profit from this assumption.

Thanks for all your ideas and insights.

Q: There is so much buzz in media about the Magnificent Seven- the latest grouping that alleges dominance from these mega cap leaders and how 2024 is likely to see them fall from grace at least in momentum rallies, or at least in contrast to others.
Don’t support this assertion, ie is there relative price and growth rate relative to others such that they are due to get leapfrogged, or worse decline? I feel like this same line has been towed for several years and look at five and ten year growth rates for any of these as examples.
If you had some chunk of change would you lean here or elsewhere, say to financials or industrials?

Q: A family member entering post-secondary school owns these stocks in their TFSA on an approximate equal weighting of $4,000. They have $8,000 to contribute and invest this fiscal.

The objective is growth with some risk; maintenance of capital is a secondary objective.

If allocating in $4,000 increments would you add to one or more of the existing investments or are there one or two you think would be better suited to a young investor over a 3 - 5 year investment horizon?

Thanks so much.

Q: I'm a retired somewhat conservative investor content with slow steady growth and a dividend helps as well. I have been happy with my diversified portfolio but constantly struggle with should I or should I not make these changes;
1. Sell T (non-registered account, tax loss) buy BCE?
2. Sell AAPL (in an RRSP) and buy NVDA?
3. Sell TD (non-registered account, tax loss) and buy BNS?
4. Sell ATZ and or DOO (both in a TFSA) and buy what?
Thank you
