Q: Hello,
I recently mentioned taking a position in MDLZ for part of my international holdings, not realizing MDLZ is actually US-based. Knowing you don't follow international stocks, are you generally aware of other internationally-based consumer defensive companies listed on a major US stock exchange? I looked at Nestle, but it seems to be only buyable OTC, and I am not too keen on that market. Another thought was DEO, do you see any red flags with it?
Thanks again, Michael

Q: Hi,

I hold VXUS and have decided I'd like to instead concentrate my international holdings on four stocks: ASML, LVMUY, MDLZ and NVS. I was wondering, recognizing you don't cover European companies, are there any obvious red flags with these four companies. I know there is no comparison between and ETF and individual stocks. Sector is not a concern.

Thank you. Michael

Q: My recent question about defensive growth stocks - let me rephrase it as I was after growth in defensive sectors . In defensive sectors I would appreciate your advice on top 3 growth stocks within each sector for 5-10 year hold. For example, in staples sector, could you advise top 3: COST, ATD, MED, CELH, PEP, MDLZ, BYD, DRVN, MNRO, or others. For Utilities sector, please advise top 3: for example, BEP, BIP, RUN, PBW, ENB, or others. For REITs and Telecoms, same. Please deduct requisite points.
Thank you..

Q: Hello
I own three consumer staples in US market.
In the last year Mondelez has much out-performed Coke and Diageo by a long shot. But If I go to a five year chart they all performed equally well.

Do estimates point to Mondelez out-performing the other two in the next year or two? The reason I ask is I am wondering if I should just hold Mondelez since the Coke and Diageo are not performing well of late.

Long term investment hold, 20 years plus.

Thank you
Stephane

Q: Thank you for your terrific website. I need to add funds for my U.S. non registered account. I presently have IWD, DVY and SPY.
How would you compare the performance and outlook for the above funds? 5 year minimal hold.

Q: Hello
Can you comment on General Mills quarterly earnings, and can you give me your opinion on the company?

I have some USD fund available to invest in the USA Consumer Staples sector. I own Coke and Mondalez already and am wondering if I should start a new position in Genral Mills or should I just add to Coke and Mondalez. How would you rate General Mills company vs Coke and Mondalez ?

Thank you

Stephane

Q: Given the weakness in consumer staples in the US, if you were looking in this sector what are some names that'd be on your watch list?

Q: Hello Peter/Ryan,
I listed many names on the list in one question in order for other members benefiting from your advises as well. Feel free to deduct as many credits if it needs to be.

4-part questions:
1) Market rotation: Many solid consumer staples and industrial stocks went down significantly, what do you think of their directions in the next two years (I will get pay to wait if buy now) and what causing this downturn?
2) I list them in pair for long term hold over 5 years (pleas suggest a name that you like better)
FLR (Fluor-US) Industrials versus VEOEY/VEOEF (Veolia Env. ADR French) Environment-Water Treatment
DANONE ADR (French) versus Saputo
MDLZ (Mondelez -US) versus HSY (Hershey-US)/NSRGY (Nestle-CH Swiss co.)
KHC (Kraft Heinz-US) versus UL (unilever- UK)
PEP (Pepsi) versus KO (Coca cola)
3) Large international companies listed on US-OTC (over the counter) market instead of NYSE or NASDAQ to lower the listing cost and regulatory complexity of a stock exchange listing.
What to choose and ADR stock ticker ending with a Y (sponsored by a US Bank) or with a F (unsponsored) ? Why such a large price difference between them? In case of unsponsored ADR, how safe will it be time to sell the stock and time to get for the dividend declared.
In this case 52 weeks Low-High Veolia -VEOEY= 20.22 to 26.40 versus VEOEF = 19.50 to 26 (almost same dividend 1.03 versus 1.04)
4) Tax withholding:
Inside RRSP: none on US-UK co. shares and mostly 15% on European co. shares (anyway to get this back?)
Inside: TFSA: 15% in most cases (anyway to get this back)
Outside in investment account.

Thank you!
