Q: I have a significant amount of cash to invest. I would like to allocate to some very high-quality stocks across various industries that can be bought and held for a long period of time so they can compound. If you could pick 10 companies that meet this criteria, what would they be? I was thinking about BAM, MSFT, V, COST, CP, UNH, HD, JNJ, GOOG, BRK.b but am open to suggestions or changes to this list. No banks or energy please.

Q: First thanks for the swift turnaround response for ADBE, yesterday. 
Now my focus is on Consumer Discretionary stock positions. I hold Canadian positions in ATD, BYD, DOL and PLC and then for the US, AMZN and HD. 
For the Cdn positions, all exceed the target weightings. But for AMZN, which I recently added to, the portfolio for this stock is underweight by 1.2% and for HD, underweight by 1.3%.
At this time, the total CD sector portfolio weighting is  13.5% compared to a target of 10% but me, comfortable going overweight this sector as I shy away from energy and materials.
I'm inclined to add to Home Depot next. What are your thoughts about adding to HD, especially looking forward to a brighter horizon?
Another one is ATZ which I have held in the past. Wondering about buying ATZ in the near term or wait awhile???
If there are other companies in the CD or Cyclic sector that you think I should consider for the brighter future, I'd be pleased to know about them.........Much thanks..............Tom

Q: I'm keen to add to the above US stock positions.
With that in mind, what would be a good entry dollar price for each of these stocks? And do you have a preference which to enter first to last?

Q: I have held ULTA for some time and is up nicely. It hit a new yearly high on Tuesday, I am considering selling half and adding to AAPL/AMZN/GOOG/MSFT. I feel confident that when the market turns these 4 will do well. I am not so confident about ULTA. Could I please have your thoughts? Would you sell all/half/none? If you agree, in what order would you add to the others?

Q: I have recently redeemed some mutual funds that I have held for 20 to 30 years that will produce a significant capital gain for me in 2022. I have several stocks and an ETF that have been purchased in the past few years that are showing losses in the range of $5k to $15k. This includes TOI, U, SOXX, SQ, NVDA, MFI, MSFT, WSP and AMZN. Would you suggest selling these stocks to provide a capital loss that can be applied against my capital gain in 2022? It is my understanding that I will need to wait 30 days to repurchase shares to avoid the denial of the capital loss. If you would suggest selling these stocks and ETF, should I sell now or wait until the end of 2022? And if the stocks and ETF are sold to create a capital loss before the end of 2022, do you see some future in these investments and if so, which stocks would you suggest that I repurchase after 30 days? Q: What are your thoughts on buying APPL,AMZN,BRK --appl.ne, amzn.ne,brk.ne on Toronto exchange --canadian depository receipt . I found about 20 high priced US stocks that I can buy with my canadian dollars.

Recently you replied to a question regarding covered calls. You said you like high volatility companies for this strategy. In other places you said that you do not tend to write calls on core holdings. Just wondering what stocks you currently prefer for this strategy, that are not, or maybe, your core holdings

Reuters reported that WMT has reached a deal with PARA where WMT offers a PARA plus subscription to its WMT plus members. This is certainly beneficial to WMT members as they get a streaming service for no extra charge. PARA has been languishing for some time, with all the other streamers. Do you see any financial benefits to PARA from this deal any potential boost to its prospects in the streaming wars?

Q: I am looking to add a Consumer Discretionary (CD) stock to my portfolio. I try to only hold the best companies I can find in the sector. I lean towards AMZN but prefer to hold companies with dividends that grow with the company, like TSCO. Which of these two would you choose?

Is there another CD stock that you would prefer and which I should consider?

Q: I want to buy Amazon and was wondering if it would be better for me to buy in Canadian through the neo exchange. I wanted to avoid having to pay currency conversion fees. Also wonder if this would prevented me from paying 15% withholding tax?

Q: Hello Peter,

I would like your opinion on Shopify not just on its own merit but in relation to the ecommerce business of Amazon. While the long term adoption is in place the rate of growth has slowed according to Shopify. However, Amazon being a much larger and mature business had an impressive revenue growth for the quarter?
How will the market value Shopify as compared to amazon? And when taking into account Shopify's vertical integration and Amazon's diverse business, which one would give a better return to the investor for the next 12-18 months?
