Q: greetings - I'm thinking of harvesting some NTR gains. Other than the financial sector ( I have RBC, SLF, BAM, GSY, BNS) and energy ( have CNQ, SU, ENB and TU) which Canadian companies do you regard with the strongest conviction these days for long term holds. Dividends are always nice but not a stopper. Thanks for a steady hand on the tiller. Al
Another question about Nutrien......The following is an excerpt from a recent Morningstar report on NTR:
"While the market likely overvalues the fertilizer business' outlook, we
think investors undervalue the lithium business, which will generate the majority of future profits."
What is your view on the above statement?
Your recent answer to another member that used a baseball analogy was interesting, so would it be correct to say that NTR is not a 'buy and hold forever' type of stock?
Also, what would be your top picks for lithium stocks (any country), and Canadian ETFs that have substantial lithium exposure?
Q: Good morning, since Nutrien is a cyclical stock, at what stage would you say they are these days, eg. In a baseball game, which inning would you say they are in, thanks?
I'm interested in resource stocks that have long term demand - five years or more. Unlike oil/gas stocks that I'm told are too cyclical for long term holds. What resource or resources - copper, steel, uranium, aluminum, fertilizer, etc. - do you feel is reasonably safe and can you suggest some ways to play it in both Canada and the US?
Q: CAN: NTR, AEM, LUN, CCL.b US: BHP, RS, DOW, LYB, IP
Hi 5i,
I'm looking to make the material sector within my portfolio better. Can you please help me by ranking these companies for me and maybe let me know if something isn't needed or something should be added to give strength and diversification. Truly appreciate your service.
Regards
Q: What is best strategy to attempt to hit near the top of the cycle on these names . I have been thru a few cycles with some of these. Which ones would you sell 1st ?
Some in RESP age 15 .
Q: Hi 5i I just sold some of my Nutrient to bring my holdings back to 6%. I am looking for suggestions for a replacement, in the material sector. I am a income investor
Q: Hi team. If one would want to diversify more into the energy and materials sector what would you suggest would be your top 3 choices for each for a longer term hold (10+yrs). Thanks
Q: I have a relatively small RESP portfolio that will have to change to an RRIF. I would like the RRIF to be able to generate enough dividends to cover the required withdrawals. If that is possible. Can you tell me your top ten highest dividend-paying Canadian companies or maybe even better ETFs or a combination that you would be comfortable owning?
Q: I'm in the fortunate position of sitting on a double here in just a few short weeks. NTR represents almost 4% of my quite well diversified portfolio in a cash account. I'd rather not pay CRA a capital gains tax but don't want to see my investment reverse either. What would you do? Partial sell to allow for zero cost? Nothing?
Q: Hello everyone at 5i!, I trimmed 30% from my nutrien holding since it has grown nicely . Now that I have my initial investment at hand, I was thinking I would like to add NWC to my portfolio. It seems to have a reasonable PE ratio and a decent dividend. What are your thoughts on NWC for a long term hold and is now a good time to pick it up ?Cheers, Tamara
Q: Hi group would like your opinion on Gold / silver in general good time to buy or little late to the party?
Also what's the best way to invest in precious metals (what names or etf would you recommend or is it too late to get in
What% of my portfolio should be in energy going fwd
I would like to add to AMAZ, GOOG, CSU, TOI, NEUVI,ATZ, GSY, NTR COST, L - which 3 would you pick and why/ also would you buy now or continue to hold cash for lower entry points
Realize more than one question here so deduct as necessary thanks for your help
Q: Do you think that, while this unfortunate war carries on, industrials will continue to rise?
I read that gold, grain (wheat?), copper, paladium and nickel have reached new highs.
If so, I'd be grateful to know what stocks you would prefer to own to cover some or all of these, plus an assessment of the key metrics for your view.
Thank you for your highly appreciated viewpoints.
Q: Hi Everyone at 5i!! I purchased nutrien in the past around the 47$ range . Considering where it is at now in price and the unfortunate world affairs, does it still have a significant up potential? Cheers, Tamara
Q: Commodities coming into short supply - would something like RSI have a good potential upside? Are there any other commodities with anticipated shortages that haven't already gone vertical?
Q: In my RRIF account I hold NTR which has broke two of my sell/trim thresholds. It has grown by 100% and is now over 7% holding in this account, so I may trim back to a 5% holding. My short list to replace with a higher dividend income in mind are ACO.X, EIF, NWC, and PKI. Could I please get your ranking and if any should be removed from short list.
Q: Do you know if any of the above companies have exposure directly to Russia, Belarus or Ukraine. Alternatively, would any of the above benefit from sanctions on Russia/Belarus (for example buyers switching to NTR for supplies from Russian suppliers)? Thank you as always.
I have no materials in my portfolio although lots of oil. Can u recommend two US and two CDN ETFs OR companies that you think should do well without too much volatility?
