Q: Guidance seems to be the key factor in reporting season for tech stocks. No one cares if you beat on the current quarter, like ROKU just did. Its outlook is terrible, with higher expenses and higher losses ahead. Do you think ROKU will become a profitable business one day or will the streaming wars never end? Is the end game for ROKU a takeover by NFLX or others?

Thanks and thanks for the detailed answer on META. Time will tell if the emperor is wearing clothes.

Q: Hello 5i!
At this point in the cycle can you please rate the following as buy, sell or hold. I know you sometimes say in a different kind of market high growth can do well. Can you please comment on whether one should decrease technology holdings in general or just wait for tech to shine again one day. Thank you!

Q: I sold ROKU at the end of Sept to harvest a tax loss and bought NFLX in its stead. Fast forward a month and ROKU is about what I sold it for while NFLX is up about 20% (thanks for the suggestion!)

My question is in two parts. First, does ROKU, in your opinion, still represent a stock with a better longer-term upside than NFLX meaning I should continue with the original plan to sell NFLX and repurchase ROKU?

Second, if the answer to the above is yes, do you think it is best to repurchase ROKU in a month or so as I suspect it will be a target for tax loss selling or might it be best to wait until the new year so as to defer my cap gain on NFLX with the expectation that ROKU likely hasn't appreciated much in the meantime?

Appreciate your insight.

Paul F.

Q: I am planning to sell these names for tax-loss. Should I buy a replacement for each to protect against a turnaround in the next 30 days, or do you think I'm better off holding the cash for that period given the current outlook for equities. If you still recommend replacements can you offer a suggestion for each - or perhaps only for some? Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i Team - I hold the above stocks in three small U.S. accounts. I plan to keep NVDA, QCOM, AMZN, GOOG. My holdings in the other six are minimal due to the general sell-off over the past year: CRWD, UCTT, U, APPS, ROKU, UPST. I would like to combine these 6 into two, three at the maximum. Could you suggest which two or three should be kept. Or might it be best to sell all six and start over with a couple of different ones. My investment focus is growth with a three year timeline. Since it's the end of the week the answer can wait until sometime next week.
Thanks.

Q: Hello 5i Team,

I'm wondering if you can suggest a higher risk growth stock with better short-medium term bounce potential than Unity. It seems that the shine is off of the metaverse theme for the time being, and I am down about 74% on this stock since it was in favour. Or, do you think I should consider it a hold? Thanks.

Q: Hello 5I,
I am down 55% or Apps.
Just wondering if you would hold on on switch into something else. Looking for something with similar upside of course.
Thanks

Q: Hello 5i
Recently you replied to a question regarding covered calls. You said you like high volatility companies for this strategy. In other places you said that you do not tend to write calls on core holdings. Just wondering what stocks you currently prefer for this strategy, that are not, or maybe, your core holdings
thanks

Q: I am thinking of the selling the above stocks for a tax loss as I am down significantly. Could you rank these stocks as to which you would sell first to last.
Also I still have quite a bit of stock in technology and was thinking of investing the money in a general ETF mimicking the market. Which ETF would you recommend.

Q: Assuming we are due for a rebound, can you provide your top 5 Canadian and top 5 US growth stocks that you would be buying today for a 3 year hold. Any commentary would be helpful.

Thanks for all your great advice.

Q: Hello Peter,

In light of the quarterly performance of Meta and Roku, what is your short to medium term outlook for the 3 companies mentioned above? Will they still be candidates for overperforming in a recovery bounce when the market is done with the downward trend.?

Rajiv

Q: Currently, the largest paper losses in my non-registered account are in ROKU, TTD and U. I am considering selling one or all of them for capital losses but do not want to miss out on any pending gains in the short term. How would you rank these for selling with a low chance of price turn around over the buy-back restriction period? Please suggest a few names for surrogates.

Also, which US stock(s) do you see as a stronger growth name for permanently replacing one or all three of the above? Sector allocation is not relevant in this case, and I do not currently own any FANG stocks.

Thanks.
