Q: Hi,
Brian asked about private equity on June 25. In your response you mention that private equity is not correlated to other assets. I am looking at the 10 year performance of PSP vs. SPY and their charts move up and down in almost perfect parallel (pre-COVID run ups, COVID crashes, post-COVID run ups, etc.), with PSP returning 93% and SPY 234%. On a 4-5 year time scale, PSP/SPY/NGPE move up and down in parallel as well. I am struggling to find a reason to invest in a private equity ETF based on this. Is it because an ETF, regardless of what it is investing in, is in fact correlated since it is traded like any other equity?
Thank you for all the great information your provide, Michael

Q: Thank you for your excellent answer to a very pertinent question by Brian this morning (25-06-2024) on Private equity.

You didn't include your all time favorite company BN :) How come? Also, sometime ago when I asked about non correlated assets, you had mentioned about the US companies like KKR,BX,BLK etc., They didn't get a mention in your answer to Brian either.

In your answer to Brian you had suggested ETFs both in the US and one in Canada. Do you have any particular preference?

Last but not the least, from your answers to various questions, I get the impression that you are not too concerned about the impending crash! You still seem optimistic. In that case increasing the allotment to Private equity is bit premature, no?

Take as many credits as it is warranted.

Many thanks.

Q: Larry Berman stated that he has moved all of his personal stocks and bonds to private equity and private credit because the returns are much better. Can you comment on positive and negatives of Larry's strategies?
And should the average investor be considering this strategy?
And if so what would be some etf's that can be considered?

Thanks
Brian

Q: Hi,

Which sector you think is worth taking a position in at this point in time as a non correlated asset, IF and WHEN a correction takes place. Not about market timing for I know you don't believe in it! But more as part of portfolio tune up.

Gold/Metals/Utilities/Pvt equities/any other sector that interests you?

Q: Hi Peter
I have read alternative investments as a way diversify the portfolio beyond stocks and bonds.
There appears to be many types of alternative investments and complicated too.
If one were to invest in alternative investments, do you have any recommendations on how to approach such investments?
Are there any ETFs in this space that simplifies the investment approach?
My purpose is for income with a bit of ongoing growth.

Q: Hello
In today’s Globe and Mail , a financial advisor , suggests that Canadians should consider alternative investments in addition to stocks and bonds.
Investing in alternative assets for individuals can mean investing in funds that hold assets that include commodities, infrastructure like airports or highways, land and real estate,

Can you please recommend a few funds that are holding alternative investments?
Thank you.

Q: Hi 5I,
How would a small investor get in to Private equities. This only seems possible for High Net Worth Clients. Is there good Publicly traded company's or ETF's that focus on Private equities. Is this a type of asset class that is recommended to diversify your portofolio.
Thank you

Q: Hi Peter and group: I am interested in the above noted ETF for an approximate 3% holding in my RRSP. I think you touched on this ETF recently, but am wondering if you could shed further light as regards volatility, expense ratio, (seems very high at 2.2%) and overall risk. My risk tolerance is moderate and the hold would be for several years. I also currently hold ZWH, ( 6 %) in my RRSP for U.S. exposure .

Thanks for the great service

David
