Q: Would you recommend to buy, hold, or sell GSK?

I ask on behalf of a relative I help with investing. GSK is currently 1.3% of their portfolio. I had already been thinking of recommending that they sell when the news on June 3 came out:

"Shares of GSK dropped more than 9% on Monday, after a Delaware judge allowed more than 70,000 lawsuits alleging its discontinued heartburn drug Zantac caused cancer, to go forward, in a blow for the British drugmaker."

They are at a 15% loss with their GSK holding (less if you consider dividends), but luckily it is a small part of the portfolio.

I am leaning toward a 'sell recommendation' but am open to counter arguments.

Thanks so much!

Q: I have some money in my RRSP and would like to buy some US stocks. Could you recommend your top picks you think are priced to buy now, which gives 3% or more dividend. Also any you would wait on, and what price point you would enter. Thanks so much!

Q: Hi
In a past question I was provided these US stocks to purchase: VZ, DUK, GILD, ABBV, O. I was looking for: low to moderate risk and high dividend yields I am again looking for another 5 to 7 stocks with similar criterion. As I am trying to build a US portfolio, please provide some diversification suggestions as well. Thanks, Len

Q: Regarding Ivan's Mar. 28 question about these ADR's: They are all UK domiciled corporations, and the UK has no tax on dividends. Therefore there is no dividend withholding tax, even in a non-registered account. This is one of the reasons I prefer to hold ADR's of UK-headquartered stocks for foreign content - I currently can't make use of the foreign tax credit. (BTI is another one.)

Q: Hi Peter & 5i, The above ADR's trade on US Exchanges among others,
whose dividends are passed on to Canadian investors without the dreadful withholding tax, even in taxable accounts. How would you rate them from good to not so good. Also your input on these and others that you can think of, would be appreciated. As always thanks for the great service. Ivan

Q: As a new subscriber, I’m thoroughly impressed with your advice and 5i Research services overall - thank you for all that you do.

I currently hold ABBV, BMY, CVS, and GSK in a long-term hold, diversified RRSP portfolio. I’m not necessarily looking to add further healthcare exposure, but am very interested in the long term prospects for MRK +/- ISRG and would appreciate your opinion on them. And compared to my existing companies, would there be a suggested ranking of these six in terms of potential for long term compounding growth?

Q: Hello!
1) I would like to get a good, general US healthcare etf .. what might you recommend now? (Long term income investor)

2) also, I would like an etf that has companies like Sanofi and GSK, at decent weights .. what do you think? I see that VYMI has them but at very low percentages.

Appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Q: Hi Team
For my spouse’s RRSP
Between Glaxosmithkline (GSK) and Bayer AG (BAYRY) which is the better investment to accompany Royal Phillips NV. (PHG)
Within a household is it ok to own similar securities between partners and accounts or is it more prudent to hold different companies for maximum diversification and some downturn protection. I own JNJ, NVO and GUD.
Thank-you in advance, Sam
