Q: Hey guys,

We already own DXG, would you recommend any others instead of DXG for international exposure? Also, a full position on individual stocks is between 4 to 5% (hopefully letting them grow to 7 to 8%, ), what about etfs?

Hope you can help me. I've managed my and my wife's registered and unregistered accounts for a number of years and I'm satisfied with the results. Those accounts primarily hold equities and I spend quite a bit of time overseeing them and tweaking as I think necessary.
I've now been put in the position of acting as trustee of funds for two minors. The time frames the two trusts will run are 7 and 9 years respectively and the principal amount of each is approx 75K. I want to invest the funds but I don't want to put them in individual equities and manage them as actively as I do our personal accounts. I would prefer to put them into ETF's that I can keep an eye on monthly or quarterly and not worry too much about tweaking.
Being optimistic by nature I'm hoping to arrange to get it all for these two trusts - capital appreciation, income, sensible degree of risk, Canadian, US and international exposure, favourable tax treatment, etc.
There are an awful lot of ETF's out there and I really don't know how best to evaluate them to shake out a reasonable number to look into further - especially considering how difficult it can be to identify individual holdings to effectively avoid overlap and provide diversification.
With all that in mind, could I ask you to list 5 (or so) equity based ETF's for each of CDA, the US and internationally that you think might accomplish the goals I've listed, so that I can then look into those ones further and make some decisions about where to put these funds I'm charged with managing.
Also, if you do have any general or specific advice that you think might be useful to me in the situation I've described, I would certainly appreciate your including it in your answer.

Q: I'm looking to convert a RESP invested in mutual fund (chorus II agressive growth) to lower fees and menage it more actively. Kids are 5 and 2 years old.

I was thinking to diversify with 3 or 4 ETF for 70% of this portfolio. What are your thoughts about a combinaison of VFV, XIC, XIT, ZQQ and DXG for long term? Do you have better suggestions?

Althought, is investing in XIT and ZQQ and DXG a good idea on short term since tech valuation is already high at this moment compared to other sectors?

For the rest of portfolio (30%), i would go with stocks. What would be your top 4 on short term (next 6-12 months) and on long term?

Q: Hello 5i,

I have about 30k in some terrible mutual funds (don’t ask) but would like to keep it simple and put this into one ETF without concern to sectors or risk. I know they are very new but are you able to comment on DXN or DXW? I’m also looking as DXG and DXF. And an advisor recommended moving some money into DYN800 – is there any good reason for an investor to put money into this fund? Please take as many credits as you see fit.

Q: Re comments on portfolio concentration what is your opinion on dxg's strategy of a concentrated 10 position portfolio. I look at their portfolio from time to time and positions seem to turnover frequently.
The performance continues to impress, would you agree.

Q: I have been looking to add some funds to this ETF- I like the strategy, active management, sector/ smaller number of holdings. Would you still recommend it for a bit of global diversification?
I notice it is called a dividend fund however do not see a distribution from 2018 and the 12 month trailing yield of 0% with an annual payout listed- is this a concern? (the focus really doesn't seem dividend focused) Are there any other actively managed cad$ ETFs with a similar strategy you can recommend

Q: My current portfolio is 85% Canadian and replicates your BE portfolio with ETFs for the foreign content. I am considering bringing the Canadian content back to 60%. For the foreign content, I am considering DXU (20% of total), DXG (15% of total) and VEE (5%). DXU and DXG have but 2 years history but have performed extremely well in that time. I am an old guy, not afraid of equities but wish to reduce the draw-down potential (note I said reduce; eliminate, I am aware, is impossible).
Would you agree with my thinking and if so, my choices of ETFs? And would you recommend further diversification in the foreign content ETFs?

Q: My research on this ETF shows a management fee of 0.75% and a MER 0f 0.91%. If I bought this would my total fee be 1.66%. Is this high for an ETF and can I please have your thoughts on this security. Thank You.

which would you buy and why: DXG Dynamic iShares Active Global Dividend ETF or the Mutual Fund DYN031 Dynamic Global Dividend Fund which has been around since March 2006 and has been through the financial crisis of 2008/9?

Q: I am interested in two ETFs from Dynamic iShares. Both are actively managed and both have limited history but the history they have is impressive. DXU is US oriented and DXG is global (the global fund has extensive US holding so may not be appropriate for diversification). I was wondering if you at 5i had any comments.

Q: What are your views on each of these relatively new ETFs.
Their returns since inception appear to be impressive 19.9%,19.4%,10.8%,& 9.8 respectfully.
Possibly, investable in my wife's RIF?
