Q: Hello Folks:
As many others I have been hanging onto our Tech stocks (Goog, Amazon and Apple) hopping improvement is in sight.

Currently in consumer stocks we own Costco and Johnson and Johnson and media advises are diversifying more into this segment (eg. Mendalez, P&G etc.) useful strategy.

Do you think thinning down Tech is good advice? Perhaps utilities such as Enbridge could also be good defensive play. We are seniors valuing dividends with which Tech world is parsimonious. Apple appears the best bet in Tech as they actually produce and sell real products. Everything changes, however we value your thoughts and suggestions of including specific equity options (including an ETF). Currently I do not own any ETF's as I have preferred individual companies.
Thank you very much
brian

Q: Could you give some suggestions for ETF's that track the Nasdaq and DOW? What account would you hold them in and are there any that trade in Canadian dollars?

Thanks

Q: Hi, can you suggest a few ETF'S and covered call ETF'S to put in a self directed RRIF, providing income and some growth. I know you're not keen on giving specific portfolio construction, IE, everyones circumstances are different, I would really appreciate just a few ideas for core holdings.
Thank's James

Q: Happy Holidays!! Two part question - What are your thoughts on index funds, I don’t think I see any in your portfolios.

I read some commentary sometimes how some “professional investors” say they are better than stocks, for as the stock market goes up the index funds will too, but stocks don’t always rise when the market does. I do see the counter argument there too.

And assuming you’re not opposed to them, you which ones would you recommend?

Please take 2-3 credits, as that was a long question.

Thanks,

Cam

Q: Further to your response to Tom on Dec. 5th, could you recommend several ETFs that would be quality choices to represent emerging markets, healthcare and tech that would result in less overall volatility than purchasing individual stocks? Thanks.

Q: Can you give me the symbols of ETF's that matches the movement of the tsx 60 , SP 500 and the NASDAQ. With the lower mer or fees. Thanks .. Borrowing money to invest on the stock market was something that was getting very popular. With interest rates now at normal rates in my view I believe this will end. Our economist drop the key interest rate at the beginning of covid to reduce the risk of a recession. In 2022 these same people are raising the interest rates to prevent inflation. I believe they will not succeed. I wish I had a company that could right out checks and not needing any funds to pay them. Only or government can do this. The same people that are raising and lowering or interest rates. Imagine that. Thanks for the great service but with 122 credit questions I guess I'm not using your services to the max. You guys are great happy new year.

Q: Earlier today you mentioned tech as a pretty good etf for holding mainly fang stocks. It got me thinking about my own situation. I own both voo and rsp partly to balance out my technology holdings. I am wondering whether I might be better with something like tech and rsp and selling voo? I like the idea of being a bit overweight in technology stocks and this might be a good way to achieve this. What are your thoughts on this ? Also, i note tech is a Canadian etf. What would be a good US denominated possibility?
Thanks for your expertise

Q: I am down on all of these by about 20%. If I sell them for a tax-loss harvest, what should I do for proxies? Also, since I have no capital gains for 2022, should I sell these stocks/ETFs in January to avoid a jump in stock price before the end of the year (as tax-loss harvesting season ends)?

Q: I asked in a previous question if you favoured SPY or VIG, you sided with SPY. So brings me to SPY vs QQQ. Bat the average with SPY or gamble on the more tech heavy QQQ rebounding stronger and looking like a good buying opportunity. I am slightly underweight tech so would beef up my tech holdings as well
