Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Do you think it worthwhile to buy both of these holdings (i.e. 3-4% each in an otherwise reasonably well-diversified portfolio) for the sake of making the best use of their respective growth/dividend potential? Their high degree of correlation seems the one factor mitigating against this strategy.

Q: Good Morning
Would like your opinion on the Harvest Health Care ETFs? Need to increase health care in portfolio. Is there another way to invest in health care that you would be preferable?
Would it be advisable to be Hedged or Un-Hedged?
Thank you.

Q: I hold JNJ, PFE and CVS in the health care sector. Are JNJ and PFE sufficiently different to warrant holding both? Would you recommend an alternative (and for which one)?

Q: I know that you have suggested the US for healthcare sector exposure given the somewhat limited opportunities in Canada. I struggle a bit with the single company risks in the sector given the possible reversals in fortune with political policy decisions, failures with trials and products in the pipeline, lawsuits etc. etc. Can you suggest two or three ETFs that cover the the entire Healthcare universe (devices, pharmaceuticals, biotech, health insurance carriers and/or whatever else makes up the sector) reasonably well. Thank you!

Q: Hi Peter and Staff

A while back you recommended this as an ETF with a very low mer . I believe the MER was .1 of 1%?. I have two questions

1. Is this an actively managed ETF or just an index replica based on market cap of the stocks owned?
2. For RESP's just starting out, is this a good way to gain the health care allocation as opposed to picking "the winning horse" due to trading fees ?

Thanks for all you do
Dennis

Q: If you were to consider 5 sector ETFs based on current price and future prospects, what would they be?

Please recommend your favourite ETF for each on the TSX unless it's only available in USD.

Would the beaten down USA sector (eg. XUU) be part of your thinking?

Q: Apparently, there are 11 major sectors in the S&P (Global Industry Classification Standard). Could you please list one ETF to best represent EACH major sector of the S&P? For example, would IUIT best represent the entire Info Tech sector of the S&P? It seems the SPDR funds are much more specific than the 11 GICS sectors:
Information Technology
Health Care
Financials
Consumer Discretionary
Communication Services
Industrials
Consumer Staples
Energy
Utilities
Real Estate
Materials

Thank you very much.

Q: Hi Peter,
I don't have any positions in the Health Care sector. Please provide a few suggestions, either stocks and/or ETFs, for both Canada and USA. I would like the Buy and Hold for say 5 years or more strategy.
Many thanks,
Roger

Q: Dear 5i team.
Given the current market backdrop, if one was to take 100K and build an ETF portfolio for min 10 year timeframe, which sectors would you be comfortable buying into before year end and which ETFs would you choose to accomplish this.

Thanks for your help.

Q: I just sold off my Biogen holding and am looking for a replacement within the healthcare sector. I held Biogen for over 3 years and exited with a nice return, but I have to say that I did not enjoy the wild ride and price swings as it seemed to trade solely on its new Alzheimer’s drug advancements and setbacks. So now I am looking to replace it with something a little more stable but still with the expectation of slow and steady growth. What would be your top 1 or 2 picks be today for both the US and Canada that might fit. I already own Savaria and XLV so something besides these.

Q: My question is regarding selling my XHC and purchasing XLV in my RSP. I have 414 shares of XHC and understand the cost of currency change .I have initiated a position in XLV by selling VIG when it moves beyond 10% of our portfolio and started wondering whether I should consolidate to XLV. Our other healthcare stock is WELL. I would appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Q: Hi,
I have $20,000 to top up my TFSA and wonder what would be best considering my above holdings. Should I add to any of the above or can you suggest any other stock or ETF that would be most suitable for growth and preservation. Your advice is most appreciated.

Q: I would like to add more healthcare to both my Canadian and US portfolios. I am OK with ETF's, or, good stocks that you like. I currently own small positions in NBLY and WELL, so I would be looking for something outside of those two companies. My timeframe for the investment is long-term (10+ years).

Thanks in advance
