Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Can you provide a list of 10 US and 10 Canadian stocks that you think have the highest conviction/potential to double from current prices over next 12 months or so. Market cap or risk is not a factor. Thanks

Q: In regards to an earlier answer, which stock(s) do you believe is a better alternative than SIS? Same sector or otherwise? Risk is not an issue.

Thanks for your service.

Q: Hi 5i,
Two questions if that's OK, and please deduct accordingly.
In October you counseled me to not sell ATZ when it had reached $50 and I was tempted. I'm glad I listened to your advice then and held on as it's now up a another $8 and my gain is about 90%. Your advice then might still hold - don't sell the stock just because it's up. But the economic backdrop is considerably different now than it was in October and I wonder if you would still counsel holding on, especially since a lot of what otherwise might be discretionary income could be going to servicing debt going forward, and consumers might just generally feel like reining in the spending.
Also - CURA has not been so kind to me and I'm down 50%, meaning I need a 100% gain from here to get back to square one. My understanding is that it is a good company but the regulatory framework in the US hasn't changed as was needed/expected, and the stock is therefore wallowing. So, sell and put the money to work elsewhere, or ride it out for a while, bearing in mind it needs to do very well to even begin to heal the wound it caused?
Both are in a TFSA.
Thanks!
Peter

Q: I hold these 8 equities in one part of my portfolio. I am not sure if it makes a difference, I am up on some and down on others.

The approximate weight and the gain / loss is shown for each. ATZ (3%, +17%); CNR (4%, -7%); CM (4%, +8%); Acuity Ads (0.5%, - 37%); MG (4%; - 11%) RY (6% + 5.5%).

I wish to free up about 2% of the portfolio for a cash requirement. Taxes are not an issue.

Two questions: First, if you were me, which / what would you sell to free up some cash? Second, is there anything here that should be let go because it is time to move on from it? I know AT is too small to make much impact but I am inclined to continue to hold it, for a potential bounce. Many thanks

Q: We recently initiated a TFSA for a family member (long-term buy & hold); the 10 securities purchased (in approximately equal amounts) were: Aritzia (ATZ), Unilever (UL), GoEasy (GSY), SunLife Financial (SLF), BAM (BAMa), WSP (WSP), Algonquin Power (AQN), Telus Int'l (TIXT), and an ETF called XUSR. Still have ~15% capital (~$12,000) to invest. Which 3 or 4 of these would you have greatest conviction to add to? And/or is there another security which would complement the above?

Q: At this time, what are your top picks (5 CDN, 5 US) for a 3-5 year hold in a registered account for an investor willing to take on an above average level of risk (but not high)? Sector does not matter. Thanks.

Q: Hi Team,
I am an aggressive investor, which paid off lovely in 2020, but now am being crushed. I hold the following stocks (with weightings in brackets) in total in my brokerage accounts. Could you have a quick look and tell me how this basket looks "In general"? And if you see this basket doing well over the longer term (say 5-10yr hold), pointing out any suggested changes you would make, if any are "sells" or worth switching out. Note that if I sell any GSY it would incur tax (the weighting is large because the position has grown and have been a firm believer in the company as its valuation still looks cheap and am collecting a nice div off it as well). I am 42yrs old so retirement is a ways away and my goal is maximum returns with reasonable risk until retirement. Please deduct credits as required. Thanks

Q: Which company do you believe has greater up-side in 2022: SLF or LWRK?

I currently hold both LULU (down 12%, TFSA) and ATZ (up 40%, cash account). Am contemplating:
* continuing to hold LULU
* selling LULU and buying more ATZ (thus raising my ATZ holding to 4.35%)
* selling LULU and purchasing AMZN. Your advice would be most welcome.

Thank you,

Maureen
