Q: I read a lot about the Market online and through the media and I am seeing numerous who have claimed to have predicted such downturns as the 2008 and 2020 and who are saying that this one will be 30% plus before the end.

There have been a lot of downgrades lately and most recently being AMD and XPI. What is your take on this?

Thanks so much and hoping to get some insight into what is going on now.

Q: Hi 5i,
I’m in the process of rebalancing my RRSP and TFSA and looking to be greedy while others are fearful.
Specifically moving TD, FTS, T, and LNF to an RRSP so that my TFSA can be growth oriented.
My remaining TFSA positions would be as follows:
- Half Positions: NVEI, EGLX, LSPD, WELL, U, APPS, BAM.A, SIS, DND, BYD, MITK
- Full Positions: GSY, TOI, CRWD, ATZ

I am planning to deploy as follows:
- Complete existing positions: NVEI, LSPD, APPS, U
- New Partial Positions: AT, XYL
- New Full Positions: DOL, SHOP, VEEV, ANRG, ATD, TIXT
Would you swap out anything on this list that would better compliment my existing positions? I have a 10+ year horizon so I’m leaning towards aggressiveness.

Thanks!

Q: Given the recent run up in certain semi conductor and chip stocks, would it be prudent to use an ETF such as SMH to better diversify risk right now if only one position available in a portfolio? Or, going the individual stock route, how would you rank the following in a moderate risk portfolio QCom, AVGO, TXN, NVID, AMD, SWKS, INTC?

Q: Good Morning, I have done well on NVDA these past two years and it has become just over 7% of my portfolio. In light of the current positive news on AMD, should an investor (like myself) consider trimming NVDA by 2% and buying some AMD. I know you like to let your winners run, and previous answers show that some members of the 5i team own both of these stocks. Do you still have more confidence in NVDA or has your opinion changed? Taxation is not a concern as NVDA is held in a registered account. Thanks very much. Brad

Q: Is there a reason why TSM has been flat while other semi's like NVDA, AMD, AVGO have been on fire. I wanted to buy NVDA but missed the recent move higher and looking for another semi that will catch up to these other names. Is TSM a good candidate? Thanks!

Q: I am holding a small position in TSM that is currently at a 2% loss. The share price has been trading sideways for some time. I also own SMH which has TSM as one it's top holdings. I am inclined to sell TSM and use the money for something else. I plan to keep holding SMH which has made good gains for me. Both are in the same taxable margin account. Should I keep holding TSM for the longer term, or should I let it go? I am also holding MRVL, AMD, QCOM and NVDA for the long term.

Q: Hello Peter,

I am learning how to build a position and would like to know how one should go about it.
In this case, I waited nearer to market close to buy AMD. As the price kept going up relentlessly, I decided to buy half a position.
I was aware that it was near the 52 week high and that it was going to report after 2 trading days. So the chances of the price retreating before that was not going to happen. Am I correct to assume that?
And now for buying more to complete my position. Should one do it immediately tomorrow, the next trading day or should one wait for the earnings report and buy once the trend is confirmed?
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Rajiv

Q: Hi Peter,

I have been waiting on the sidelines to buy into the October volatility as we go into the end of the year seasonal strength. What would your sector preference and ranking be between industrials /materials/technology?
In the meantime tech has almost recouped its losses.
I have been dithering between AMD and MRVL and both have gone up nicely. Would you suggest I buy now (and which); or wait for a pullback end of month? I do have NVDA and QCOM, am a growth investor and any suggestions if I should keep QCOM or migrate to one or both of the two mentioned above ?
Thank you in advance for your opinion.
Regards
Rajiv

Q: Hi Peter and crew. I know that US tech companies are "not in your wheel house" and I also know that you have great insight. so I am interested in your opinions on the following.
I am watching that both Rivian and Global Foundries Inc. are applying to the SEC this fall to go public. Both appear to be in a good space for long term trends/needs. I am interested in long term investing in these companies when they come to market.
Thoughts?
BTW - Peter, Loved the article in the FP about your father-in-law. Maybe the 2 above companies will give him " the action" he is looking for!

Q: Both AMD(acquirer) & XLNX(acquiree) have great results on July 26 & 27 prompting them sharply to New Highs. Then Biden's antitrust crackdown on Aug 5 hit both hard. Also tensions between USA & China. China can thwart mergers of U S companies if they have significant presence in China. In view of foregoing,is it ok for me to buy AMD?.The merger is expected by year end & is reportedly a good marriage & will result in taking data centre business from INTC. Txs for u usual great services & views
