Q: I bought a small amount of a company named Fortress Technologies that is involved in Bitcoin. When the BTC price was lower in 2019 they sub-leased their mining equipment in an arrangement that sees them retain 90% of the profit on each coin mined while the sub-lease company (WeHash) does the mining. This has become lucrative. According to a recent filing they have 163.2 Bitcoin on account which combined with cash and cash equivalent assets meant $.158 per share in tangible value. This number would now be higher with BTC having run from 17k to 23k and another month of mining. For the 3 months ending September 30, they mined 14.2 BTC worth $297,000 USD today at a cost of $10,438 per coin.

Unlike QBTC or GBTC which trade at premiums to BTC and only buy or sell, FORT is mining and buying bitcoin which seems to offer more upside. I understand that a super small cap company like this is not for everyone and that coin prices are just as likely to fall as rise but my question is whether it could be a way to profit in a disproportionate way from bitcoin as more investors look for bitcoin exposure that can be held in registered accounts? To put it another way, could this double based on people piling in and outperform increases in the coin value itself or am I dreaming?

Thanks!

Q: Both funds hold BTC only, no other alt coins that I can see. The current price has a premium to NAV of 27% and 3% for QBTC.U. Why such a huge spread ? I know GBTC is much bigger but still it makes no sense to me. Do you have an explanation ? Also am I correct to assume the price of these 2 stocks will move pretty much in line with the price of BTC ? If you had to buy one which would you buy ?
Thanks

Q: Hi team,
Cryptocurrencies seem to be gaining support. Not sure that I am ready to jump in and buy any bitcoin but thinking about perhaps a small position in perhaps an ETF.
Would be interested in your thoughts on this area and would you look at the cryptocurrency space, or is looking at the blockchain technology a better way to play this sector.
Can you recommend some ETFs in this area.

Your advice is much appreciated
Paula

Q: Is buying PHYS a low risk proxy to owning physical gold since it actually holds the gold?
Is buying UUP a low risk proxy for buysing US$ or could there be unexpected volatility of the ETF ouside of dollar fluxuations?
Likewise for GBTC for Bitcoin?

It like to get a close to buying US$, Gold, and a bit of Bitcoin but without having to physically obtain - have I chosen approapriate vehicles for this or could I get blindsided?

Q: OK so... no question this Bitcoin rage has a similar look to the dot com bubble based purely on the hype, volatility and the number of cryptocurrency players now involved. Heck, cryptocurrency isn't even a word recognized by spell checker yet. BUT... as we sit back and scoff at it, it appears more and more businesses are starting to offer Bitcoin as a payment option. And now I am reading there are many new innovations coming for 2018 with some prognosticators iterating we could see Bitcoin reaching the $50,000 value. This is a risky and very volatile investment no question, so to bet the farm on it would be ludicrous. And if you do own a hyper wallet, best to make sure you have an excellent firewall. Having said all that, why am I finding this such a tempting investment? And what can you tell me that would dissuade me from starting a 2 or 3% portfolio position in this technology, because I don't think it's going away.

Thanks for all you do
