Q: Hello 5i Team
Reviewing the publicly listed mortgage investment corporations (MIC) on the TSX and TSXV.
1 - Are there any others listed on exchange(s) other than the five listed?
2 - Is Builders Capital Mortgage Mortgage too small (~$19M market cap) for consideration?
3 - What is the best metric to compare MICs - price to earnings / price to book / others?
4- What would be your ranking - best to worst?
5 - Any other considerations?
Thank you

Q: Thoughts on Firm Capital please. Can you please describe this company and its metrics with comment on stability of the dividend. On a scale of 1-10, where would you rate this company in terms of risk. Thank you!
Q: Real estate obviously having a rough ride with interest rate increases. Do you still maintain holding a weighting in real estate in a diversified portfolio even though this sector is clearly not doing well? I know other fund managers are very strategic and would say hold zero real estate. Is the issue if one exits one will not know when to get back into the sector and diversification is always key, in that not all sectors will ever rise and fall at the same time. Would like your general thoughts on continuing to hold your favorite real estate names through these times and also your thoughts on a less popular name Firm Capital and whether you feel they can weather a recession.
Q: Yielding 8%, rates hikes likely near the end, safe? sock it a away in a registered account ( CRA treats as interest income) ?
Q: What is your view of this company? It has an attractive yield an TD has a buy on it with a medium risk rating.

Q: I own GSY on your recommendation. I also own ZEB for simple exposure to all the Canadian banks. I'm interested in finding other niche opportunities in the financial space, whether on the income side or the growth side (or blended). Someone mentioned Firm Capital Mortgage Investment Corp (FC) for income, recognizing this also entails some real estate exposure. What is your view of FC, and what other suggestions would you have? Thanks.
Q: Do you have a preference of one over the other. Also, First National pays a dividend. Firm Capital pays out interest. Wondering about FC's structure and any shareholder liability.

Q: Hello 5i Team
Could you please provide an update on the mortgage investment corporation.
Are they a reasonable source of higher yield interest income?
The four MIC and First National have suffered the declines similar to the market.
These investments would be held in my RRSP for long term interest income and not for capital gains. These would be a small portion of my high yield fixed income portfolio which includes corporate bonds and convertible debentures.
How did MIC fare in the low interest rate environment after the 2008 crash / recession as most stock charts only go back 10 years.
Thanks for the excellent advice in the last four weeks with all the market changes.
