Q: I ALWAYS ask about only one company at a time in one question. I ask here about two companies only because the two are intertwined.

Confusion lingers over QCOM.us. The uncertainty in my mind is over: QCOM’s long outstanding offer to buy NXP Semi; disputes with major customers (or is it just one customer Apple?) And now a former insider wants to buy out QCOM and his group has not clarified its position on NXPI.

I hold both QCOM.us and NXPI.us. QCOM appears to have a moat in that its products are, for now, allegedly indispensable in many devices. Is QCOM’s moat real?

Which of QCOM and NXPI ---IF EITHER --- would you sell? Your reasons would be much appreciated, thanks.

Q: I have owned this stock for several years and it would appear that the company is executing its strategy well, albeit much more slowly than I would have liked. As it results improve, I am wondering how you see its growth going forward and combined with that what you see as an ultimate viable exit strategy. The last few quarters results have been good (in my eyes) and while the stock price has grown, the trading volume is so low that it seems that even if I wanted to get out, I could not. (Just for the record, I don't). But do see the ultimate end play as a takeover in which case I won't have to worry about liquidity? Or is it just a sleepy stock that has enough shares outstanding to not make this an issue?

Appreciate your insight.

Q: hello 5i:
clarification please. "Chris" asked about the big 5 Canadian banks, but I only see 4 listed. Where does BMO fit in this mix?
thanks

Q: Untangling the relationship between ECN and EFN is above my pay grade, but hopefully not above yours. Are there any lingering connections which would keep these entities tied together, where fundamental problems in EFN could leech into ECN? Or are they now completely and absolutely separate? Thanks again!

Q: The CEO of Blackberry was interviewed on BNN today. He said that they are branching into security software for many devices including auto and end point devices. Is this a major threat to the business of ABT? If ABT cant get their sales growing would that be an indication that they are ripe to be disrupted and made obsolete rather quickly?

Q: Hello 5i
I own ECN Pref shares and continue to suffer I expect due to EFN business performance and the close link investors may create between EFN and ECN.

The question here is about the recent globe article and fan fair related to insider buying of CEO (at ECN). Normally I would be pleased to see the buying except for the bad taste created when the same thing was said about CXR (Concordia) CEO buying - He was buying with the banks money. As soon as the stock dipped, the bank took back their capital through a forced margin call and all of a sudden the skin in the game was gone.

Any way to determine whether the stock being purchased ($6M) by Mr Hudson is real or just a facade; zero risk for him as the bank holds him on a short margin call leash?

Q: This is a question asking for clarification on a question Bryan asked about clf on march 16.

He was concerned about preservation of capital. You seem to suggest that GIC's might bea good route as they would preserve capital. Please correct me if i am wrong but i was under the impression that if one holds a bond index fund such as this that one will likely get a return of capital as well, as new bonds at new prices will gradually be added. Is tis more or less right. And if it is, then it would probably be reasonal to stick with CLF, no
Thanks

Q: I have been researching Crius in great depth and I cannot find the cause of the price freefall. I am beginning to think there Crius might be impacted by the new Federal Energy Regulatory Commission guidelines on pipeline and electricity transmission line profits. Still, it seems a stretch the Commission would destroy an industry.
Can you help a drowning investor?
With great appreciation.
