Q: May I have your latest thoughts on UFS? In 2020 you were fairly negative on their debt...is that still your position? Over the past month I have seen the stock hit new 52 week highs...do you have any idea what is driving the stock higher?
Is UFS simply a material stock which is now bouncing hard now or is there something more to it? According to my broker UFS earnings per share is negative $3.52. Are the earnings projected to go positive this year?
Q: 5iteam:I continue to hold Domtar bouncing around 20% down and of course with no dividend.considering I do not have any foreign positions I am contemplating taking the loss on Domtar and initiate and diversify by acquiring Cyh for income and future growth.at 16.50 CYH is off about 25% from 52week high. Do you think Domtar has more growth potential in a market recovery? Your comments greatly appreciated. tks.Larry
Q: Has domtar ever cut div? And has it ever been caught up in such a poor environment for it's product?what do you think is the likely hood of a cut is inevitable? TKS. And all the best to the 5i.team.Larrh
Q: Gordon Pape suggesting selling marginal companies in this environment and claim the loss. Which of the above if any would you consider marginal?
Thanks
Jeff
Q: Your take on ufs please. Last question was back in November. Would you consider it a fair hold ifnothing else but for the dividend? THANKS FOR ALL THE CONSOLING FACTOR. TKS LARRY
Q: Cheers. I’ve noticed that Lumber futures have had a nice climb since the New Year. Do your sources confirm this? If so what companies (1 or 2) would stand to profit the most from this rise?
Thanks for your assistance
Q: UFS seems to be setting new highs and is now up The stock is up 34% over 1 year and has been setting new highs. The positive momentum continues. Should I be thinking of selling my biggest looser (MAXR) and buying UFS?
I thought MAXR’s latest quarter wasn’t bad however the market thought otherwise and now the shorts are circling even though as you noted MAXR is not a great short. I am a buy and hold investor and I am trying to figure if I am in love with MAXR. How can you tell if you are in love with a stock?
Is it correct to assume if I sell MAXR and buy UFS I will be derisking the portfolio or am I deluding myself? Is UFS an industrial or materials stock?
Thanks,
Jim
Q: Morning 5I Team,
I was curious to ask what your opinions were about Cascades. The company is currently undervalued P/B, however the only issue is it's debt load. I really like how they own a majority stake in an Italian packaging company, which could grow significantly with the rise of online shopping in Europe.
If not, could you give any recommendations in this similar industry? (Boring and under the radar)
Thank you,
Q: There was a typo in my question. I meant UFS not UPS. For simplicities sake I have repeated my question correcting the typo.
Looking over the previous questions on UFS you note debt his a bit too high and little growth has been observed.
1) If we assume online shopping trend strengthens do you think this will increase UFS’s profitability?
2) Does UFS produce the cardboard used to make packaging?
3) Assuming UFS produces newsprint do you think any strengthening in cardboard prices will will be matched with weakness in newsprint prices leading to zero net gain (or worse)?
4) Does UFS own their electricity generation infrastructure and if so is it fully utilized or do they have surplus which could be sold?
5) How vulnerable is UFS to competition from other companies?
I note since the last question in August UFS’s share price has increased by about $8 and set a new high on December 15th on rising volume. Momentum seems to be swinging to the positive.
Thanks,
Jim
Q: What do you think of UFS earnings? They have an excellent dividend and I'd like to buy some primarily for income, tho I like to take advantage of the occasional upswings.
Thanks
Q: What do you think of Domtar. Trading near a 52 week low with a nice dividend yield. Is the dividend sustainable and does it represent decent value here. Thanks
