Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I agree that the offer price is a pretty good deal for Paypal and not so much for the shareholders.

Why don't all 5i readers submit their vote, turning down the offer and see what happens.

I'm going to vote no for my 35,000 shares. Why don't the rest of you do the same.

Lets see what happens. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Perhaps we can get a better offer.

Best

Sheldon

Q: Hello 5i.
I was contemplating how being part of 5i has brought me to an investment arena that for me is sometime uncomfortable; volatility.

So then it goes to say I have 5i to thank for showing me an investment like Tio Networks. With the PayPal Offer on the table it makes experiencing some extra volatility worth the inclusion in a Portfolio.

You do offer an excellent resource for Investors.
Thanks
Dave

Q: After the end of today's trading TNC.v was halted.

Lol. I initiated a position just last week. Oh well.

From https://www.wsj.com/articles/paypal-to-buy-bill-payment-firm-tio-network-corp-1487107500?mod=yahoo_hs&yptr=yahoo

"PayPal Holdings Inc. has agreed to acquire Canadian bill-payment company TIO Networks Corp. in a roughly $233 million deal designed to broaden the digital-payments company’s reach among consumers who lack traditional financial accounts, the companies said Tuesday."

Q: Hello 5i. I really enjoy reading the questions on a daily basis and consider your replies VALUABLE information. So much so I recently renewed my membership.
I have held RDM corp for the past 3 years and it has been a steady, low volatility stock. After todays buyout news, I am considering selling and putting the cash into another company in the same space. Do you think TNC is a good replacement? It seems expensive compared to RC.
Thank you.

Q: Technology is 15% of my equity portfolio. It is made up of KXS, TNC and OTC at 27% each and ENGH at 19% of the technology component. BTW thanks so much for recommending these. ENGH is "resting" after an amazing run up to about Jan/16. I suspect it will start to move up again if I remain patient. So just asking, would you change anything here?

Q: Hello Peter, Should have sold DH Corp sooner but will take a loss and deploy the cash to these three companies also some to TIO networks. Do these choices sound suitable to you? Herb

Q: I have about a 4% position in each of the above. Would it be too much exposure to add a 4% position in Open Text?

Thanks

Dave.

Q: I have listed the tech stocks I currently own. As much as I like all of them, I am very over-weight in that sector and need to re-balance my portfolio. I think I should sell 3 of them. Which 3 would you suggest?

Thank you, Peter

Q: It is time to invest new TFSA money. I wonder if you could rank these six small cap companies for potential growth?
DXD, DBO, IRD, ITC, PEO and TNC.

Thank you

Q: Hi 5i,
Happy New Year Peter and 5i team. We would appreciate if you could assess our grandsons (age 3) RESP. We have added new money and will be getting some additional grant money soon. In your opinion what additional stock would fit in with his current holdings or should we increase the percentage of the lowest holdings which is TNC and XTC.
The current holdings are: ATD.B, CXI, DHX.B, DSG, XTC, GUD, PBH, TNC.
All of the holdings are up. Thank you for your advice in the past.

Q: I have the listed companies in my TFSA($60k). I haven't been too concerned with portfolio weightings due to the portfolio size and have let the winners run. As a result close to 50% of the portfolio is held in just 2 stocks (CCL.B and CRH) I have nice gains in the others except DBOX and SYLOGIST which are both flat and I have considered switching out. Two questions I have are 1. Do you think it is a prudent strategy to stay this course or would you rebalance keeping in mind these weightings are not that out of whack when you consider my other portfolios? 2. What name(s) would you consider adding to this mix for my 2017 contribution of $5500.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to the entire 5i staff for your outstanding service.
