Q: Peter and Associates,

I read your responses to members daily and find them most interesting and highly useful. My question this morning has to do with Spin Master(TOY). You regularly get questions on it and from what I read you think rather highly of the company as an investment.

With technological advances, we are seeing a lot of changes in the retail landscape due to impacts in buying habits and preferences at all age levels. Reading your comments on Corus is a good example of change and the consequences suppliers must adapt or at least deal with. Toys are Us just announced it went into bankruptcy protection. No doubt more than one factor explains why.

As grandparents, what entertains today’s children is rather different to their parents! Might TOY become a victim of this change and could Toys are Us prove to be a form of leading indicator? Or, might more typical business explanations or Amazon explain the problems at Toys are Us?

Beyond the obvious potential impact from the loss or cutback of a major distribution channel at the retail level, is/are there reason(s) for concern that suppliers to the toy market will be facing serious headwinds? Or is this simply a front line retailer facing viability problems in a changing landscape?

Thank you

Mike

Q: Hi team, I have a small LIRA with only 40K in it which will not be touched for at least 15 years. The rest my portfolio is balanced so no need to worry about sector allocation, etc. I am looking for some growth stocks that I could buy and leave for this time period. I would prefer more medium risk growth stocks versus higher risk US or CAD. I'm thinking of a 10K allocations. You thoughts?
Thanks

Q: Hi 5iResearch Team,

I have started a position on SHOP since this past January and have been adding to my position since. I am currently up by about 100% on my total holdings and now it accounts for about 5% of my total portfolio. I am debating if I should take some money off SHOP and put the proceed on something else (preferably with a dividend). May I please have your thoughts on this and if you can also recommend a company to buy with the proceed from the sale of SHOP should I decide to trim my holdings on SHOP>

Best Regards,

Q: Hi, After announcing a blowout quarter, stock has been drifting lower for past few weeks. The looming bankruptcy of Toys R'us has been cited as one of the reasons. Toys R'us being one of the major retailer of Spin Master products, what is the likely impact, in your view, Spin Master sales, in near term. How would the company cope with this ?

On a different note, S & P Dow Jones group announced addition of Spin Master to TSX Composite as at Sep/18 closing. What is the approximate expected demand of TOY shares for this event ? Thanks

Q: I own MG and MTY in consumer cyclicals and contemplating adding another name among GIL, RCH, ZZZ or CTC.A. Please order them from best to worst as a solid complement to the two I already have, as part of an RRSP account with a 15+ years time frame. Please give a brief rationale and suggest another company if there is an obvious better choice. I note that the stock value of RCH is surprisingly stable on multi-year charts for a c. cyclical.

Q: I am doing a little cleanup of my losing positions. I have small "leftover" of BDI, HNL, AIM and PD which all seems to be dead money right now but I wonder if one of these companies could bounce back (BDI for exemple is trading at 0.3x book value) ?

Can you suggest a couple of good companies to replace these losers?

Thanks again for your good advice and use as many credits as needed!

Michel

Q: Good morning...I have a balanced portfolio and have additional cash to deploy...I basically own more or less 5i covered stocks...currently out of ENB, ATD.B, New Flyer, SHOP, CSU..would you add to? Also OTEX which I am holding but currently down (18%) would you add at this point..

Another question...if you had additional funds what would you be adding to on your covered stocks...no worry of allocation...top 10 in order..

Thanks

Q: Hi 5i,

As of today, which stocks would you purchase with a full position in an RRSP to hold for 3-5 years?

Which stocks would you consider value stocks to purchase today for 1/2 to a full position in an RRSP?

Thank you for your excellent service and advice.

Cheers,

Jerry & Debbie
