Q: For some time 5i (and others) have noted that small cap valuations are low on a historic basis, and I also believe that you have commented that small caps often lead in a market turnaround? I really like a good "reversion to the mean" play, but what are the conditions for that to happen? I have to think inflation and higher interest rates are disproportionate headwinds for smaller companies vs large caps. What should one look for before buying a small cap ETF, or just forget the timing and figure you'll be happy in a few years one way or another? Thanks for your thoughts.

Q: If I understand what I have been reading in your comments is that small caps in general are down but have good potential if the economy gets back on track. What would be your favourite Canadian traded ETF to capture a small-cap rebound in Canada and your favourite that trades in the US?

Q: In a recent answer you said "We feel that the slightly overcrowded flight to safety in large-cap tech names can open up opportunities for smaller and mid-sized names".

Is there a canadian ETF that reflects an investment in small and mid cap tech in Canada that is worth investing in right now ? And if not is there an American one ? Thanks

Q: Please suggest a few US and Canada mid-cap equity ETFs to invest for over 5 year term--buy & hold idea. As well, please provide for each a good entry point.
Thanks,
Roger

Q: Can I have your opinion on the risk/reward for Small Caps in general right now? Some analysts are suggesting Small Cap valuations are currently low based on their historical position relative to larger cap companies and should “revert to the mean” in the medium term. If you were to invest in this theme what ETF would you use? As always your insights are greatly appreciated.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

The most recent question about XMD was on Feb. 23.

For a combined portfolio that is skewed somewhat more heavily to larger-cap stocks, could XMD make a good addition? From the iShares website: "Targeted exposure to mid-cap and small-cap Canadian equities". (I can trade this ETF commission-free.) XMD holds 175 stocks, many of which are favoured by 5i, but of course it also holds some that have fallen out of favour. Please suggest alternative Canadian and US ETFs that you may consider "better" but have the same overall goals of XMD.

As always, your advice is important.

Q: Brian Belski of BMO has been on CNBC 2-3 times recently.

Looking at global investment opportunities he is consistent in rating USA as still his favourite.

BUT he beats the drum more vigorously for CANADA.

Do you agree with him?

More importantly what etf (s) would you recommend to capitalize on Canada’s upside potential and relative cheapness compared to the USA.

Thank you.

Q: Hi,

I want to get my investments into more manageable ETFS. If you had to invest in only 3 ETFs for the Canadian market in the next few years, what would they be? Could you give me a list of some top contenders?

Q: Hi 5i,
I've recently seen a market summary which indicates that over both the past 3 months and the past year the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index has outperformed each of the S&P/TSX Composite Index, the DJIA, the Standard & Poors 500 and even the NASDAQ, significantly.
Accordingly, I'm wondering if there are ETFs that track the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index exclusively and, if so, what your comments are about them?
Thanks,
Peter
