Q: I am reviewing my portfolio and realized that XEI has grown to be about 20% of my annual income earned from my investments. If it was an individual stock I would be concerned and divest some of it. As an ETF should I still be concerned? I am retired and have no work pension.

-
iShares S&P/TSX Canadian Dividend Aristocrats Index ETF (CDZ $43.45)
-
Vanguard U.S. Total Market Index ETF (CAD-hedged) (VUS $114.92)
Q: When deciding what to hold in a non-registered account, is it more important to maintain adequate exposure to the US with something like VUS, or to keep the dividend tax credit with a CDN option like CDZ or XEI?
Q: I'm noticing that my xei dividend which is supposed to be paid out July 31 is not in my account yet (I'm with cibc).
I expected to see it today Aug 1. Not yet. What is the usual wait for everyone for their dividend to be paid in relation to the posted pay date?
Thanks

Global X Canadian High Dividend Index Corporate Class ETF (HXH $73.38)
Q: I am looking for the top 2 Canadian dividend ETFs to hold mostly in registered accounts. I screened for MERs less than about 0.4 and current yields of about 4.5% or more and came up with: ZDV, XEI and VDY. How would you rank these for long-term holdings; best first. XEI is tied for the lowest MER and has the highest yield, with 29% energy, 29% financial and 17% utilities. VDY has the largest AUM at $2B but high financials at 54% and low utilities at 6%. Finally, I would like to invest in HXH in unregistered accounts but I am concerned about the low daily trading an small AUM at $92M. Thank you!!

Q: Hi 5i,
In regards to XEI and VDY ETF's.
I looked at their T3's for the last couple of years using the CDS services site
and found that: XEI seems to consistently have ROC and for VDY it is inconsistent from year to year. These are supposed to be Canadian equity income ETF's so why do they pay a portion of their distribution as ROC? Can you help explain why this might be happening to other ETF's?

Q: I have a relatively small RESP portfolio that will have to change to an RRIF. I would like the RRIF to be able to generate enough dividends to cover the required withdrawals. If that is possible. Can you tell me your top ten highest dividend-paying Canadian companies or maybe even better ETFs or a combination that you would be comfortable owning?
Thank you.

Q: Am looking to invest in a Canadian Dividend ETF.
I have researched the above ETF's, they all have pros & cons.
Am leaning slightly towards VDY at this point.
Criteria: Will be in a non-registered account, am after monthly dividend income with
some moderate growth potential. Am not overly concerned with a high weighting in financials, ideally would have a lower MER but am after solid 3-5 year growth.
If forced to choose one only, which ETF would you recommend?
Thanks for the great service,
Steve
