Q: Which etf’s would I use to cover my u.s. and cdn stocks on the short side. I like my stocks, but would like to cover for a while thanks Ken
Q: Can you tell me if my thinking is correct here. The MER on the 2X leveraged short ETF is 1.52 whereas the MER on the non-leveraged ETF is 1.42. However if I want to go short (or long on the short ETF technically) for 10K CAD, on the leveraged I would buy 5K. Paying the MER on the 5K would be almost half as expensive as paying it on the 10K for the non-leveraged ETF. Is this essentially correct, or am I missing something?
- BetaPro S&P 500 Daily Inverse ETF (HIU)
- ProShares Short S&P500 -1x Shares (SH)
- ProShares Short QQQ -1x Shares (PSQ)
Q: I'm looking for ETFs that are the inverse of the S&P 500, the Dow, the QQQ's and the Russel 2000, that trade in Canadian dollars in our market. Can you make suggestions?
Q: Given the recent volatility in the US I am wondering about portfolio insurance in the short term. While holding cash is one way to mitigate a drop, I don't really want to hold much more than I currently do so I'm wondering if HIU would be a good way or if there is some other strategy you might suggest. I hear many comments about more significant declines, with the trade issues that are currently occupying a lot of political talk, raising rates, and, if the Dow gets back up to the 26,000 level that could be a double top, all of which make me nervous.
So, since I am a long term investor, rather that take profits and raise more cash, what would you do for some short term downside portfolio insurance? Thanks

Q: In your opinion, what would one use to short the SPX indexe. As things seem to be a little stretched, and getting more so. On the US and Can side
Thanks
Thanks
- BetaPro S&P 500 Daily Inverse ETF (HIU)
- BetaPro S&P/TSX 60 -2x Daily Bear ETF (HXD)
- BetaPro S&P/TSX 60 Daily Inverse ETF (HIX)
Q: What managed Funds or ETF's are available to short the TSX or S&P ?
Q: I understand there is an ETF that could provide some protection in case of a down market,I believe these are called inverse ETF. I looked in the ETF section and only found one mention of inverse ETF and not sure I understood how it worked.
Any info would help as I am looking to buy "insurance" protection.
Thanks
Jean

Q: HIU-T This was recommended on BNN as a way to off-set downside. Could you please explain in detail how this would work and would you recommend this method rather than holding cash in todays market with a bearish outlook? If you had $100,000 cash would you put it all into the HIU? What would be the down side?
Q: Good day 5i Team, I have a diversified registered stock portfolio loosely mirroring 5i's balanced leaning toward growth stocks (with Europe & US dividend etf exposure). I am long term with this but am looking for hedge against any broad market declines. Can you briefly explain and recommend inverse etf's as a suitable hedge against this.
