Q: Tony Dwyer from Cannacord likes to refer to "banks and tanks" as good areas to be in when the economy eventually turns positive. I believe he's referring to the more cyclicals. Can you suggest both Cdn and US ETF's that would fit the bill. Thanks.

Q: 5i Hello,
I have these EFTs on my RRSP and not feeling happy with them, can you suggest some possible candidates I could switch to, or just sell them all and with profits buy CSU LSPD SHOP GOOG AMZN.

Q: In your portfolio analytics, you used to have A list of suggested etfs for each sector. I cannot find this list anymore. Has it been removed? Could you please provide a list of recommended etfs for each sector. Thank you

Q: Greetings!
I am looking to add some solid industrials weighting to my TFSA. 5 yr plus time frame. Can you offer your top 5 stocks , and top 5 Canadian focused ETFs please with rationale? Also, interested in any Canadian based ETFs that focus on US industrials. I could use some additional US focus, so how would your top picks in each ETF category compare with each other in terms of geographic region?

Q: I will probably be purchasing ZIN shortly. Regarding the quarterly dividend, does it matter when I buy ZIN? I know the Ex div date is Dec 27, so I need to buy it before that, so it settles prior to or on Dec 26. And theoretically in an efficient market, the price of ZIN will drop the amount of the dividend ($0.13) on that date. What's your experience...does the ETF share price drop actually resemble the dividend amount?

Thanks...Steve

Q: I would liked to switch the focus of my investments from equities to ETF's. Could you give me some broad parameters for guidance.
Could you suggest 10 ETF's for starters. Mid to long term with medium risk.
Thanks for your help.

Q: I need to diversify outside of Canada, although I do have some individual US stocks.
1)What markets do you think will be the best - least volatile, some growth - over the next five years?
2) Can you recommend two etfs within those categories?

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Staff,
Even though I 'thought' I had elected to receive some BIP shares with the sale of ECI, I notice today that all of my ECI shares were sold. Thanks again to 5i.:)
ECI was held in my TFSA, and my only Industrial holdings in this account are SIS and TFII. If I want to stay in the same sector, would you suggest deploying the new cash by adding to either or both stocks, or investing in a new Industrial stock or even an ETF like ZIN? Thanks as always for your valued advice.

Q: In our grand-daughters' trust accounts, they each have exposure to banks, insurance, pipeline, energy E&P, utility, and REITs. There is available cash in the accts to open a new position. Would you add to a present sector or start a new one (i.e. materials, industrial, health care, etc) If starting a new sector, which looks the most promising at present and could you recommend 2 or 3 dividend paying ETFs in the sector ( ideally over 3%). Looking at a 5-7 years time frame. Thanks so much for a great website and much valued advice. don

Q: I am a retired, conservative, dividend-income investor. I am looking to top up my industrial holdings. I own WSP, which I could add a bit more of. I am looking for another industrial company that pays a dividend > 2.5%...tough to find one.

What are your current thoughts on the etf ZIN-T? What do you think of the holdings and their participation in the current updraft, due to the anticipated spending on infrastructure?

A 2nd option is TFI, but it has had such a jump?

Do you have any other suggestions for a dividend-paying industrial for me to consider?

Thanks, Steve

Q: I am considering buying VAW Vanquard Materials on the premise that material stocks should do well with upcoming infrastructure spending both in Canada & the US. Would you agree and if so, would there be an Canadian ETF you would prefer or another US ETF? With thanks, Bill
