Q: Hi Guys,

My son is opening his first RRSP and is looking for a basket of ETF's with a bit of a longer term horizon. What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Q: Can I have your opinion on the risk/reward for Small Caps in general right now? Some analysts are suggesting Small Cap valuations are currently low based on their historical position relative to larger cap companies and should “revert to the mean” in the medium term. If you were to invest in this theme what ETF would you use? As always your insights are greatly appreciated.

Q: What are your thoughts on index funds and if you were to buy a few which ones would it be, following the Canadian and US exchanges?

Thanks

Q: I am currently managing my TFSA/RRSP funds and some money outside of registered accounts, which are largely individual stocks. With the market volatility, potential recession and war in Ukraine, I am finding it more difficult to keep on top of the individual stocks and am therefore considering going to ETF's. I am a year away from retirement but would be ok with more risk in the TFSA/RRSP's.
Could you please suggest 5 ETF's for the registered accounts and 5 ETF's for the non-registered accounts.
Thank you,
Jacquie

Q: My son has uninvested $ in his RRSP, and no other investments at all. Can you suggest 3-4 positions to get him started? He'd like something that he doesn't have to pay too much attention to. Thanks.

Q: Peter,

I look at the S & P 500 index as the gold standard for performance measurement. It has been my theory that any portfolio performance should be compared to this index first. Do you agree?

For diversification purposes please list your top 5 indexes & associated ETF codes that you feel would be relevant whenever looking at an equity portfolio. This can be anywhere in the world. { Fixed Income I strictly take a ladder approach.} I would be interested in ones with a lower correlation , if that is realistic. It may not be.

Thank you

Paul

Q: Can you please tell me a bit about IWO in the Growth Portfolio? P/E is listed at 1.5 on Yahoo finance - is that accurate?? I would like to add to a very my current small holding, recognizing that this appears to a high risk, high reward investment. 5i purchased in the Growth Portfolio at about $179 and currently at about $229. Looks to me like a good time to buy more.

Q: Good morning,

Truly enjoy reading your reports and answers to queries asked by members!

In your response to Chris, on April 8th, you outline a starting strategy for a young 16 year old investor.

You state: "we might start out with a broad market ETF that pays a dividend"

Would you be comfortable listing a few broad market ETF that fit this criteria taking into account a 10 year lock up of the funds?

Perhaps suggesting a few for high, moderate and low risk tiers.

Have a great weekend!

Q: Dear 5i team.

Further to Cyril's question where you "hand selected a few of your favs from the three portfolios", is this a diversified enough list to put a small ETF portfolio together based on? Can you suggest which ETFs may be appropriate?

I recently upgraded to include your ETF portfolios. Can you "handpick your favs" in these given the current market backdrop, risks, and opportunities ahead?

Many thanks.

Q: I’ve landed on 200k and looking to invest. Would appreciate your advice how to disperse my money. 5-7 year time frame, and money will be mostly invested in a tfsa.

What are your top 10-15 growth stocks (Cnd and/or US) to begin a portfolio. Top 2 ETF’s.

Also, do you believe 5 years is long enough for a full recovery in the market ?
Thanks for everything!

Cheers

Q: Just wondering if you would offer an opinion on what the likelihood is that both of these ETF’s could be higher a year from now? I guess what I am trying to ask is whether small caps in general might “revert to the mean” in terms of their historic relationship to larger caps regardless of whether growth or value is more in favour/out of favour?

Thanks,

Q: I am contributing to my RRSP. I have a maxed out TFSA and also have a non-registered account. I am trying to stay fairly diversified in terms of sector. (and am happy with that mix currently). What I would like to do, is focus on the US in my RRSP for tax considerations. My US exposure is currently low.
Questions: Can you suggest some ETFS or Index Funds that take advantage of the tax situation and are favourably priced right now? Should I contribute to the RRSP in $Can or $US? Is there an advantage to either? 5-10 year time frame.

Thank you for your great service!

Q: I would very much value your opinion /comments about Larry Swedroe's October 11, 2013 article in ETF.com entitled "The 'Black Hole Of Investing'" ( https://www.etf.com/sections/index-investor-corner/20092-the-black-hole-of-investing.html ) about why small cap growth stocks are the worst-performing segment of the investment market. And why you recommend them in your Growth portfolio (IWO) instead of small cap value, for example - Thank you.

Q: I have some new money to invest in my TFSA. I am well diversified in my other accounts, and am now wondering what to add to my TFSA. I am a senior so I would say about a 5 year time frame that this would stay in the TFSA, maybe more.
Any suggestions you have would be helpful.
Thanks so much for your help in the past, it has always proved very lucrative.

Q: Hello 5i
I recently asked a question regarding US stocks and etf positions. You suggested that I could easily go with the stocks I have plus something like VTI. I currently hold RSP ( as I like an equal weight approach and it maybe more readily balances my overweight in technology) and IWO for small caps. Do you think that this would serve as well as VTI?
