What are you thoughts on WPM and XGD or can you suggest others you like and why?

- iShares S&P/TSX Global Gold Index ETF (XGD)
- iShares Core Canadian Long Term Bond Index ETF (XLB)
- iShares S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index ETF (XEG)
Q: If we are headed to zero / negative interest rates, I am thinking of playing this thesis by purchasing XLB to capture the capital gain on the interest rate reduction and XGD should do well in a low / negative rate environment. The balance of the portfolio is VBAL and XEG. What do you think? Thank you
- Bank of Nova Scotia (The) (BNS)
- Suncor Energy Inc. (SU)
- Manulife Financial Corporation (MFC)
- iShares S&P/TSX Global Gold Index ETF (XGD)
Q: These firms are my top four holdings. Any concerns as we move to a bit more defensive portfolio?
Historically, is their a sector that is the "canary in the mine" that would be a sign of a bear market?

- Methanex Corporation (MX)
- iShares S&P/TSX Global Gold Index ETF (XGD)
- Materials Select Sector SPDR (XLB)
Q: Good morning 5i,
I currently have no basic materials in portfolio having sold MX to crystallize a tax loss. Analytics suggests 4%. We are currently trying to become less aggressive because of stage in life. Thinking 2% XGD (comments please) and open to suggestions for another candidate. Thanks for your help. Ted

Q: Greetings 5i,
Recent article I found had me thinking about iShares Global Gold Miners ETF (RING) as a decent large cap gold miner ETF. It's in USD unfortunately.
Could you lend your opinion on this ETF and is there a CDN denominated version or alternative? What weight in a diversified portfolio? Is there a small cap gold etf you like as well?

Q: I'd like to have a 4 percent gold weighting in my portfolio. Do you suggest a miner etf or bullion etf or half and half? and which ones would you recommend?
Q: Peter Schiff a commentator for Seeking Alpha and who we also know from being a speaker on the Money Show, made a comment on Seeking Alpha that we are going into a full blown trade war and Gold is getting down to resistance and if it holds, it could be a buying opportunity. Your comments. Thanks, Dennis
Q: I have a question about gold I want some thought on please.
I'm considering taking a position (about 5% of portfolio) in gold for a medium term hold. Given the potential volatility of individual gold stocks I am thinking of an ETF, likely XGD. Two questions, do you recommend entering at this point and if so...... should I consider an ETF of mostly large caps such as XGD, or would you recommend balancing the position with an ETF with more of a junior focus. Would a position in a streaming company such as Franco Nevada accomplish the same thing?
