Q: In regards to High Liners earnings results they seemed exceedingly bad and the conference call did not outline much chance for a recovery before 2020. Did I miss any positive points? There was not really any discussion of a dividend cut other than a statement about "a review of its capital structure to determine the most prudent use of capital." Do you think a dividend cut is likely? In your opinion would private equity ever be interested in this company in a turn around situation?
Q: I'm down 70% on HLF. Any chance this company could go bankrupt? I don't mind hanging on to recoup some of my losses but I would rather not watch it go to zero.
Thanks
Q: Hello I was wondering what you thought of HLF earnings.? The stock is down so much this year but it has been here before and came back. Do you see this being an entry point for a long term buy for another ride up? Do you think it will need to cut it's dividend 8% + currently? Thanks again for the great service.
Q: Since your last comment on HighLiner on July 3, the stock has gone down another approx 12%. I am very tempted to purchase a small position, but am a bit afraid that this is a "falling knife", with perhaps a dividend cut in the works.
I would appreciate your opinion as to the risk / reward at this point.
Thanks!
Q: I would appreciate your comments on HLF. Is the debt straining the balance sheet, is the dividend well covered? I would be quite happy to earn a nice yield and enjoy a recovery in their business in 3-5 years. But if their business is failing I want no part of it.
Q: This was rated a B approximately a year ago. Since then there have been a lot of material changes and the stock is trading at an even lower share price. What is your outlook on this stock? is it a buy?
Q: Own HLF in TFSA and lost 40%. Been moving sideways for quite awhile and think I should walk away and consider replacing with DOL. Do you agree or have a better suggestion?
Q: Hi guys
I see High Liner had a new CEO appointed: " High Liner Foods Incorporated (HLF.TO) on Wednesday named Rod Hepponstall as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective May 1, 2018. Hepponstall will assume this role from Henry Demone, Chairman and CEO, who will continue as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Hepponstall will also serve on the board.
According to a statement, Hepponstall has 25 years of experience working in the food industry in the United States and Canada, in both retail and foodservice. It said he has held positions of increasing responsibility at several publically traded food companies, including Lamb-Weston, Inc., ConAgra Foods, Inc. and Maple Leaf Foods. He most recently held the position of Senior Vice President, General Manager Retail & Foodservice Business Units at Lamb-Weston Inc.."
I would have thought given the complexity of the fish wholesale market that they would have chosen a fish veteran rather than a person with more general food service direction or am I missing something. The market did not seem to like the choice as the stock was down 5%. Any thoughts of what this choice in CEO may bring to the direction of High liner.
Q: After another drop, High Liner seems like it would be good value down around $11, trading around 10X next years earnings. It's momentum is negative and debt is a little high, but what do you think?
Q: I am going over our investments and am looking to put in a bit more zip by rearranging a few holdings in a well balanced portfolio of only stocks. In our RIFF I am considering removing 3% AW.UN and replacing with HLF. The dividends are similar and short term it looks like HLF is attracting some buying after tax loss selling and longer term corporate policy shift to efficiencies and developing more healthy products suggests a bit more potential capital gain for HLF. Please Comment on longer term risk for this change.
Q: Your thoughts on CLR and HLF as they settle down after not so good results. Also, when is the period of greatest tax loss selling and how much would you let it influence buying and selling opportunities particularly in TFSA and RRSP accounts?
