Q: What Cdn or U.S. companies would you consider to be the most likely takeover targets in 2022? Can you rank them in terms of quality even if a takeover doesn't materialize?

Q: I am looking to offset some capital gains received this year from PEO and PHO (thanks!). Currently I have the following holdings in a loss position, in order of dollars down: TDOC, TV, XBC, HAL, XEG, NFI, SQ, TECK.B, XTC, WELL, ENGH, PLTR. I would need to sell the first six to fully offset the gain, or could sell more if using those in a smaller loss position. How would you rank these holdings in order of selling, and which of these would you look to buy back after 30 days (if any)? Note that these are held within a broad portfolio that I am also looking to consolidate.

Q: Good afternoon, I'm feeling grouchy about my TFSA today. Quite a few of my holdings are underwater. Tech is the only area that has shown me any growth. I am down 46% on XTC, down 80% on HWO, down 36% on GUD, down 6% on BCI, up 5% on DOL, and down 6% on SIS. I know I can't claim losses but is it time to dump some of these and redeploy. I don't need the cash and can be quite patient and I know my tech weightings are getting high but it seems as though that's where most of my winners are. How high would you let your tech weighting go in a TFSA that is a long term savings vehicle. Thoughts?

Q: Hello 5i team,
I need to crystallize some losses to neutralize some 2020 capital gains: which would you sell first (in what order)? ACQ, CXI, MX, NFI, XTC? I am reluctant to sell : ACQ right now because of its excellent momentum. ACQ seemed to be turning things around before COVID, and they seem to be doing the right things again right now. Also reluctant to sell MX and NFI because they are slowly grinding higher and having good cyclical upside potential. If I sell CXI, I would feel like selling at the bottom, I would prefer to wait to see its performance when international travel reopens a little bit more (hopefully) in 2021. That leaves XTC, but I need a little more selling than only XTC. May be only a partial sale, but each only account for 1% to 1,5% of my total portfolio.
Thank you for your collaboration, Eric

Q: With XTC's 4th Q report yesterday, would you be comfortable taking a small position for growing income?

I see they have increased their dividend every year since 2010, but the share price has declined about 50% since 2016, so not friendly to capital in this particular time frame! What would turn things around over the next few years?

Also comments on the quarter please. Thanks!

Q: For non-Canada exposure I use ETFs (VFV, HXS, XQQ) along with Canadian companies that have significant international exposure. In 2016 you wrote an article on this topic and recommended ATD.B, CCL.B, WSP AND XTC. I particularly liked that you provided a table outlining the countries where the 4 companies were invested. Do you have further information on this topic?
